Should youth sports teams be given trophies to reward them for finishing the season? Many people think yes it’s a great thing, but many people think it’s also not a great thing. I think that giving youth athletes trophies is not necessary. Kids need to learn at a young age what recieving an award like a trophy really means, but chances are that they won’t. Giving trophies to youth athletes is not necessary because it costs a lot of money, and kids are automatically getting rewarded for doing nothing. Giving out trophies at such a young age will jeopardize what kids think of as a strong work ethic. The first reason against giving youth athletes trophies is simply cost. Trophies are very cost effective, and spending a bunch of money for every player on the team is going to get out of hand. Depending on how many players are on a team this price has the possibility to skyrocket. For example a youth football team has at least 22 kids on a single team. Could you imagine buying 22 trophies for kids who just participated in a sport. Being able to even play a sport is a big reward already. Not to mention, the money spent on pointless trophies could go towards something better like coaches, uniforms, of other equipment to help keep

Some teams have kids who have bad attendance at practices, is always late, and doesn’t work hard at practice. Would you really want to spend money on someone who isn’t even taking the sport seriously. Let alone you want to reward them with an expensive item like a trophy for a poor work ethic. That isn’t going to help them later in life if they think they will get a reward for doing nothing. Some kids might deserve a reward for working hard, but others absolutely do not. Also, when these kids get to middle or high school they won’t be getting trophies unless they do good in sports. It is better to teach kids at a young age to earn things, than to wait when they get
