Youth Ages Ignorance Can Be Fooled But Stupid Lasts Forever

"Youth ages, immaturity is outgrown, ignorance can be educated, and drunkenness sobered, but stupid lasts forever" (Aristophanes). This is a great quote. It is basically reinforcing the point that stupid can’t be fixed.
The quote reinforces the point about stupidity by giving examples of things that can be changed. The examples given are youthfulness which can be fixed with age, immaturity is fixed by age as well, ignorance can be fixed by teaching, and drunkenness eventually ends when you become sober. Stupidity and ignorance are two different things. I looked up the definition of stupidity and didn’t agree with the definition. It said that stupid is someone who is”Not intelligent”(merriam-webster.com). Ignorance is just the absence of knowledge,

Someone might not agree with the part of the quote that says, “immaturity is outgrown... and drunkenness sobered”(Aristophanes). Someone might not agree that immaturity can be outgrown because he might think that some people don’t grow up but stay immature, for example, if a child is spoiled and his parents just let him glide through life relying on them. Someone might not agree with the second because a person says that drunkenness can be sobered, but that doesn't mean that someone will stay that way.
I asked my mom what she thought of the quote. She said, “Even though I have heard sayings similar to this quote many times, I don't agree. I believe that education can rectify stupidity, but this is coming from an educator. How is it any different from “ignorance can be educated”(Aristophanes)? Just like education can give someone knowledge, does knowledge not help people make better judgments?”
"Youth ages, immaturity is outgrown, ignorance can be educated, and drunkenness sobered, but stupid lasts forever" (Aristophanes). Whether you think this quote is true or false, we can all agree that as long as you don’t say anything at all, no one will know that you are immature, ignorant, or stupid. The thing we really learn from this quote is that we should keep to ourselves and not

As time go by since the 18th century to what is now modern era, humans are not the only one susceptible to development and progression; technology has to. It has shape life to a sense in which life becomes more sped up internally. Life became either more simplistic as technology speeds up research into various subjects or more complicated as the technology developed decreases desire to practice upon literacy comprehension and increase dependency upon a source but oneself. In a crude manner, Bauerlein claims the under-thirty generation of modern history “don’t know anything”. To some extent, it is true that the under-thirty generation is the dumbest due to inadequacy in conceptual knowledge; however, that claim is false due to the rise in intellect and the development of life…

In the last century, availability to goods and technology has surmounted the expectations and dreams of the early innovators. The new technology has created effortless access to information and produced enjoyable video games to consume the minds of the young and old. As a result, many people argue that copious amounts of goods and lethargic producing technology has made generations under the age of thirty the “dumbest generation” in modern history. They illuminate that the knowledge level of 21st century teens has decreased significantly compared to older generations. One question they should ask is what defines being dumb; someone’s knowledge of books and history or someone’s ability to apply that knowledge to life situations?…

David Foster Wallace Reflection Many commencement speeches are inspiring and speak to all of the graduating students that are stepping into the workforce. David Foster Wallace’s speech focused on the life ahead of the students, who will be day in and day out in days filled with boredom, harsh frustrations and the same routine of daily life. When I first read the quote, it showed a story behind the commencement speech. The quote speaks to the autopilot lives that we are living, where we are unknowingly tangled in a rat race that keep us from paying attention to what is most meaningful in our everyday lives.…

Once in the sixth grade my teacher handed back some reading test that the class did poorly on and told us that if we would spend even half as much time reading a book than we do using a computer, then our performance in the class would greatly improve. A few days later our teacher got a new projector to replace the old one that was broken and he spent a good twenty minutes trying to set it up before he gave up and asked our class if anyone knew how to set it up. One girl stepped forward and in about ten minutes she got the projector working and we were on our way with our lesson. The same adult who indirectly told our class that we weren’t smart because we didn’t read took twice as long trying to set up a projector as a sixth grader did. This is the type of…

The stories and articles have become all too familiar. Teen Dies from Alcohol Abuse or 14-Year-Old Dies of Alcohol Poisoning all share the same heartbreaking story of how drinking alcohol illegally has claimed the lives of loved ones. This nation cannot allow more irresponsible and life threatening activities to occur, which, is why the Minimum Drinking Age must not be lowered to 18. Keeping the current Minimum Drinking Age, or MDA, at 21 would be the most responsible decision concerning this topic because it would save the lives of many young adults who would otherwise be harmed with exposure to the right to drink.…

Through the allegory of the cave in Republic Seven, Socrates demonstrated that the goal of education is to drag the man as far outside of the cave as possible. This allows the man to distinguish the different stages on the divided line. In the Republic Seven Socrates states, “… education is not what some people boastfully declare it to be. They presumably say they can put knowledge into souls that lack it. As if they could put sight into blind eyes.”…

Plato’s Socrates Trilogy was play about the last days of Socrates. It consists of the three parts: Phaedo, The Apology, and Crito, in which they document each part of the trial, including his defense, the verdict of the jury, and the judgment of court. The story that I wanted to focus my essay is Plato’s The Apology. The overall theme I saw throughout the play, but emphasized in The Apology was wisdom. The theme of wisdom is also present in the novel’s visual depiction: Socrates by Robert Rossellini.…
