In the article it seems as if the author is slandering how the situation was handled as a whole and I find that to not be the case. I believe that the officer handled the situation appropriately while being placed in a binding situation. Unfortunately that officer had no other decision but to use lethal force to protect the other responding members of the team because Christopher did have a grasp on a weapon in close proximity and refused to release the firearm which placed all officers in the area in imminent danger. I believe that he was trained to protect his fellow officers in deadly potentially deadly situations and that he resorted back to his training and appropriately took action. Ethical concerns with handling a mentally disabled person are far-fetched without knowledge of the mental history of the person. Officers cannot look at a person and assume who is mentally ill or who is not which is unfortunate for both the officers and the unstable person. So, I believe yes this could be a question concerning ethics however, it is nearly impossible to resolve this issue. I consider that the dispute on there being a more prompt means of communication for the parents is not an issue at all. There have also been other instances which involve lethal force and the mentally ill in Albuquerque. All these instances have greatly affected the Albuquerque community and leave many questioning the performance of APD’s duties; lack of trust and respect for officers, it has placed APD as criminals; and criminals as victims. This also effects officers many are leaving the department because of the community up roar, officers are left short staffed, and many people are not applying to become officers because the distrust the community portrays in
