Capital Punishment Letter

Superior Essays
I am writing to you today as a person who is reaching out to inform you of my understanding of your advocacy towards capital punishment, and to also inform you of why I have chosen my position as well. Before getting into any of that it is best for you to know it is simply impossible to express how deeply sorry I am about the recent passing in your family. Because I have never met your child, it would be cruel to talk to you in such a way only a family member or close friend has the rights to do so. Since I am not categorized as either one of those I hope you will still allow me to keep you in my prayers hoping that each day gets easier as it comes. By now you may have put down my letter but if you did not please keep reading this as a letter of a person having the deepest empathy not only to your family but to other families who may have gone through this as well.
I completely acknowledge your feelings and way of thinking when it comes to Mr. Poncelet and justice. Your family deserves absolute justice in the

I keep repeating this because I want you to keep in mind why I am writing this letter to you. I do believe that when a person commits a monstrous crime there should be some type of punishment received. I can not say what type of punishment every person should receive because every crime is not the same. I do think there are certain crimes where the punishment received should be harsher than a child who takes candy from a store. Crimes such as the one that involved your son the punishment should be made to the fullest extent of the law, therefore, that having to be the death penalty in this case. Yes, we all have a religious background making myself highly aware of the Bible discussing an eye for an eye possibly making it even more justifiable in your thinking that the death penalty is the right way to

Stephen Nathanson, who wrote “An eye for an eye?” suggests the factual and moral beliefs about the death penalty are wrong and need to be strictly abolished. The passage states, “ A person’s actions, it seems, provide not only a basis for a moral appraisal of the person but also a guide to how he should be treated”. Also stated, “ What people deserve as recipients of rewards or punishments is determined by what they do as agents”. The argument claiming people should get a punishment based on what they do is accurate. What is not accurate however, is suggesting if someone murders another person, they should receive capital punishment.…

The death penalty today is perceived by many as an inhumane way of receiving punishment. A critic will not only argue the simple fact that the death penalty is a violation of one’s constitutional rights and only targeted for a particular social group, but also intended to affect innocent people. The death penalty doesn’t have to be the way it’s perceived to be today, for if it is dealt with accordingly, the benefits will outweigh the negative and would help the United States in the foreseeing future. That being said, instead of worrying about the damage the death penalty may cause, one should take into consideration the reasoning behind maintaining and implementing new procedures that would further enforce the penalty nationwide. Convicts…

Approvingly that capital punishment is an appropriate crime punishment in a response to murder, “the greatest crime known to the law.” As capital punishment is not morally permissible as a response to evil, then it cannot be permissible morally. Death Penalty Capital punishment is an issue that has been questioned on whether it is an effective method of deterrent or a flawed system. The U.S. Supreme Court declared the unconstitutionality of the death penalty as “cruel and unusual punishment” in the 1972 case of Furman vs. Georgia. A four year moratorium was put into effect evoking numerous studies evaluating the effectiveness of the death penalty. The legal proceedings involved in capital punishment is a lengthy process that concludes in either an execution, a pardon, or a lesser sentence. Crimes that are eligible for the death penalty are federal murder, treason and espionage.…

Personally, I think death penalty is the most ferocious way of punishing a criminal. There are many methods of execution, like electrocution, gas chamber, hanging, firing squad and lethal injection. You only live once and you will lose everything you once had in life. Life is precious and can’t just be taken away that easily. In my opinion, I think Australia shouldn’t adopt the death penalty as it is the most severe form of punishment any human can face.…

The Debate: Should America Have Capital Punishment? “For centuries the death penalty, often accompanied by barbarous refinements, has been trying to hold crime in check; yet crime persists. Why? Because the instincts that are warring in man are not, as the law claims, constant forces in a state of equilibrium” (Camus). In America, capital punishment has been a growing issue; it continues to be in the news when a high profile case comes up, or when laws on capital punishment are argued in court.…

August 15, 2016 Bruce Rauner, Governor Office of the Governor James R. Thompson Center 100 W. Randolph, 16-100 Chicago, IL 60601 Dear Governor Rauner, This letter is to address my position on capital punishment that it’s never acceptable to kill or murder because the “Eye for Eye” (Messerli) or Tooth for Tooth is not an ethical theory. As Christian we no longer live by the law an Eye for an Eye, which was represented in the book of Exodus 21:22-25; we live by grace, which is stated in Matthews 5:38-42. To put the bible in layman terms from New International Version it mentions the following about Eye for Eye: Exodus: 21:22-25 (Law Living) 22 “If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely[e] but there is…

Capital Punishment and moms in Prison reminds me of one of the great Author books “I know why the caged birds sings.” The Death Penalty also known as “Capital Punishment” meaning an execution sanctioned by the government to be put to death should not be legal in my opinion because if that person is innocent and is eventually executed it is not possible to make that right to that person or reverse that decision because death is permanent. There is no way to compensate a person that has been put to death wrongly. The government can compensate the family but it will not bring back that family member.…

When one thinks about the death penalty, they should imagine someone committing a horrific crime, such as murder. However, race plays a significant role in death penalty cases. It’s evident that if one is on trial for committing murder and they are found guilty, most likely they will face jail time no matter the color of their skin. It’s also evident when determining if one will face the death penalty if the defendant is African American. In my opinion, anyone who commits a horrific crime should face their consequences, but the consequences shouldn 't be tougher for people of color.…

The death penalty issue has always been one of the most important issues of the justice system. For many years ago, the majority of the criminals were adults over 20, but nowadays the situations have changed. The number of criminal is not only growing up by adults but also by children who are under 18 years old committed murders and other horrible crimes. Capital punishment has been widely used almost everywhere in this country for people who break the law. On the other hand, people who favor in death penalty believe that if someone in the community has done something brutal to anyone’s life; they deserve to pay for their action no matter how old they are.…

Most of the time in my life, I often hear “An eye for an eye.” Most of the people strongly believe that if a criminal took someone’s life, then their lives should be also taken away as well, but I don’t think that will deter anyone from committing crimes because I strongly believe that we should kill the crime not the criminal. The death penalty has been the highest form of criminal punishment since the ancient times for a variety of offenses. The system gives the death penalty in the form of Hanging, Lethal Injection, Gas Chamber, Firing Squad, and Electrocution. I don’t think…
