Younglife has now expanded all over the world, with ministries in nearly 100 countries as well as a strong base of 39,000 volunteer leaders. Yonglife is dedicated to giving teenagers “The best week of your life” by giving them an amazing camp experience at one of their 32 camps. They are able to give teenagers such an authentic experience at their summer camps which is often times life changing. I think it is so easy for an organization to lose sight of what is important and degrade the experience whether it be for financial reasons or simply out of convenience. It’s hard to make every single person at a camp feel like they’re special and yet they do it every single summer. Being in the camp business, is being in the “people business”, everyday offers something new and problems may arise, but it’s how you are able to handle that situation that determines how your business will be

The majority of the children in “Jesus Camp” are home-schooled by evangelical parents who teach them creationism and dismiss science. 12-year-old Levi, who wears his hair in a mullet, is being groomed as a future evangelical preacher. Exhibiting star quality, he strides through a group of children, waving his arms and mouthing dogma about how his generation is so important. 10-year-old Tory speaks earnestly of dancing “for God” and not “for the flesh.” Nine-year-old Rachael is already an evangelical recruiter who fearlessly approaches adult strangers.…

Selected adult volunteers complete the vetting process, including job descriptions and the new county online training. From the results of the online training and camper survey results from the following year, the final training occurring the day of camp reinforces the policies and information identified as poorly understood by the counselors based on the online quiz results and goes over the program, risk management, and job duties. Each year camp is designed so that youth have the opportunity for leadership, responsibility, and caring for others. Camp theme, schedule, and programming are selected by the teen leaders in the beginning stages of camp planning. From there, these teen leaders work with the camp volunteers to determine the best methods to integrate the camp thematic program with tenets of WVU camping practices.…

With the help of the teachers, and the other volunteers that were working with me, I learned how to be open to others and their opinions in small groups, and how to interact with kid that had serious problems in their life or had not accepted Christ as their personal Savior. By the end of the week, 126 kids gave their lives to Christ. In my group, I helped 5 of those kids know Jesus. I honestly can say that from this experience I feel that I have touched at least one of the kids I supervise. From getting personal with the kids in the small groups to just playing games or walking with them, I have truly connected and made a relationship with them.…

In order to fulfill the requirements of this paper, I attended a ministry called Common Ground. This ministry has volunteers that help the children with their homework, includes a reading program to help the children become better readers and improve their comprehension skills, and allows the volunteers to spend one-on-one time with the children in order to share the love of Christ to them. My main goal is to shape young people into disciples filled with Bible knowledge and to help send them out in the world to witness to the unsaved. I plan to do this by combining the discipleship model and the ministry model talked about by Richard R. Dunn in his book, “Reaching A Generation For Christ”. He states that the philosophy of the discipleship model as, “The discipleship model trains students to be God’s people in an ungodly world, equipped with Bible study and prayer skills developed in a caring atmosphere with a view to reproducing their Christian lives in other” (175). This philosophy would be fulfilled by small groups or “trainings” held on a weekly basis. I would like to keep a very close, relational youth group.…

As I reflect on my personal life I value life itself to the point I live each day not knowing what to expect the next day. Positivity is a major factor in all that I do to the point of trying to view all things in a positive way and leaving the negativity out the door. As a mother, partner, educator, and entrepreneur I strive to be mindful, spiritual, and conscious of all my actions. I value these things because this is what makes up my life and what I live for each day. My life is a fourth generation person and I relate because I “want to live, love, learn, and leave it like a seed with balance and joy" (Covey, 73) the quality of my life is more important than planning it out.…
