“During the last ten years, at least 200,000 young people have been involved in wars in different parts of the world. Some of these areas might include Afghanistan, Angola, Burma, Iraq, Lebanon, Liberia, Mali, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan and the Former Yugoslavia” (Skinner3). In most previous states like Afghanistan, this makes issues since it is destroying children knowing they won't have the capacity to carry on with a typical life and the war will remain with them for whatever length of time that they live. Young warriors who survive this calamity oftentimes have a genuinely hard time recouping to their run of their lives, they may be physically disabled or mentally scarred. One of Child Soldiers International's campaigns is specifically addressing the recruitment and use of child soldiers in three Great Lakes countries: Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Uganda. The Great Lakes program combines country specific advocacy, locally-based monitoring, capacity building among local community-based NGOs, and public education. The organization supports local NGO partners' advocacy efforts and their monitoring and reporting capacity on behalf of the child soldiers in their communities. Human Rights watch advocates a minimum age of eighteen for involvement the armed conflict of any kind. This program helps get children back to their family’s and if unsuccessful this program pushes to the appropriate care that would be needed to be taken best to fulfill the needs of these young individuals.
