In Who Is Gustav Mahler - Young People's Concert - Bernstein & NY Philharmonic Youtube video, he shows an amazing symphony playing Gustav Mahler’s amazing pieces in the same concert hall Gustav conducted in. Mahler was an Austrian who stated conducting at a very young age. His main music was in the Romanticism era. He developed strongly and became popular of many, but how would his name still be known many years later? Gustav Mahler isn’t as known as Beethoven, but is a popular person among music lovers. During this concert, it happened to be Mahler’s 100th birthday. His music was being played every single week. Another reason his music was being played and recognized was because 50 years ago he was the conductor of the same orchestra. Everyone …show more content…
He began singing and composing on the accordion and piano at the age of 4 and gave his first recital at 10. When he was 15 years old, he entered the Vienna Conservatory. During his years at the school, he began composing a piece where he felt he was able to truly develop his voice, Das Klagende Lied. Once he graduated he decided that conducting was the main thing he wanted to do. He thought it would be the best career choice. On January 1, 1908, Mahler debuted as director of New York City’s Metropolitan Opera. One year later he was conducting the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He returned to Vienna to die of heart disease on May 18, 1911. He passed away before he fully completed his tenth and final symphony. Mahler has been named as an influence by composers like Arnold Schoenberg, Benjamin Britten and Alban Berg. (Networks n.d.) Overall, Gustav Mahler was someone who inspired thousands and his legacy still lives on. Personally, I think Bernstein choose Mahler’s music to play and share because of how much he impacted himself and others. His music might have sounded similar to those known more, but he did his best and shared his feelings which music lovers enjoyed. Bernstein got to conduct the same symphony he did, (with different players of course) and in the same New York Concert hall. Now that is extraordinary and something to be very proud

The performance consisted of the 20th and 21st century music pieces, which was something I did not expect. To surprise this performance did not take long time and was over in about hour and 15 minutes.…
