Young Bride Analysis

The little boy in Wenn sie kommen reacts quite differently than in Young Bride. The little boy is isolated from everyone else by social class and his family status of having no one with him to speak up or no one is shown to the viewer. From that place of total isolation he is finally given a piece of kindness by the girl who doesn’t turn him in, and in reaction he gives his all to help her. His reaction is to foster the only positive relationship he has, no matter how small and put it in a strangle hold by “rescuing the girl”. That is an interesting move from a person who has just met the girl but in the narrative where you only have a 2 to 6 minutes normally to fully express your vision it has to do.
Another vital part of music videos expressed in Wenn sie kommen, is the very linear storyline. Most of the video is only focused on the little boy and it follows his journey to the end we see. It does break up that time and story line though with scenes of the artist, Namika, singing directly to the camera and interacting with more little kids just like the main character. This breaking down of the 4th wall does many things to further the actual songs impact in the visual format. This video focusing on a young woman and her life is never directly spelled out in the video, is not a clear time line like “Wenn sie kommen.” You could possibly interpret as a time line but through my viewings I see it more as a jumping nonlinear video. Scenes are shown of the woman going about her day or week but with the jumps to her “adventures” like in the snowy field. You could read it as linear with perhaps the women reading during the day leading to adventures but in my viewing I have always thought of it as some of the scenes as memories and so jumping
