The book You Win in the Locker Room First is written by former NFL head coach Mike Smith and author of The Energy Bus Jon Gordon. The book focuses on 7 powerful principles similar to the 5 practices of becoming an exemplary leader seen in this classes’ leadership textbook. It emphasizes the ideals that are involved in creating a thriving, successful organization/team. The authors try to highlight the 7 powerful principles as a framework for any organization when wanting to have successful leadership. The layout provides leaders with the basic tools they need to create a strong organizational culture and build relationships while also leading with the right mindset, improving the organization's team as a whole and avoiding any type of downfall they may face due to poor leadership. …show more content…
They discuss what they’ve seen from their own experience and what works with certain organizations vs. what doesn’t. Coach Mike Smith tends to be the one who is very open and honest about the things that don’t work. Both authors both share different perspectives, which allows the reader to feel a sense of authenticity. The 7 powerful principles that was discussed earlier are formally called “7 Cs to Build a Winning Team in Business, Sports, and Life”. The idea behind these principles is that not only do they relate directly to sports, but also to our daily lives, as well as life in the business world and any particular work environment. The 7 C the authors try to stress the most is the idea behind culture. They explain that if there is a strong culture within the organization, that alone will drive expectations and beliefs. It will create motivation and drive certain employees or players to behave in certain ways.
