The traditional role that You Who Are Getting Obliterated in the Dancing Swarm of Fireflies fulfills is that artists help us see the world in new or innovative ways. Kusama helps us realize how small we are in the grand scheme of things. The whole room reflects Kusama’s subject matter, the sense of “the infinity of endless time.” (Sayre 5.) Kusama describes her hallucinations: “…I saw the same pattern covering the ceiling, the windows, and the walls, and finally all over the room, my body, and the universe. I enjoy Kusama’s style of art, along with most artists three-dimensional art. I appreciate artwork that is extraordinarily large or is three-dimensional in some sort. However, I surround myself with artwork that differs from what I appreciate. I have a lot of artwork of my own in my room, but I’d like to try to make something that I would appreciate more than what I do now.
