You Too Can Procrastinate Analysis

Improved Essays
In her essay, “You Too Can Procrastinate”, Emily suggests that, if done properly, procrastination is not always a detrimental occurrence. The author lists the following steps in her postponement ritual: Do anything to keep from sitting down to write; call a friend and talk to them for 15 to 20 minutes about anything other than the paper in order to build the necessary tension; prepare to write by gathering essential tools and snack and placing them at the workstation; collect ideas related to the topic at hand; finally, sit down and write the paper. The author offers that, if these six steps are followed, “you too can become a master procrastinator.”
As a procrastinator myself, it is quite difficult not to agree with Emily’s point of view.

I learned that there are three types of procrastination: doing nothing, do “something less important” (Graham p.1), or do “something more important” (Graham p.1). The good procrastination is “avoiding errand to do real work” (Graham p.1). One of the most interesting things I read was there is a risky form of procrastination, it is unrecognized because it doesn’t seem like procrastination, which is when you are “getting things done. Just the wrong things” (Graham p. 2). What Graham suggests how to avoid procrastination is deceiving yourself into doing your work.…

Procrastination affects many people, I even procrastinated writing this paper. The ways that it affects us can be different, sometimes procrastination doesn’t affect us too much, but other time it can cause major health risks such as, stress or depression. Recognizing this, Tim Urban presented a Ted Talk on procrastination and the dangers it can have. In his Ted Talk “Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator”, Urban used pathos with a minimal amount of logos and ethos to express his message to his to the audience. Urban also used pictures to support his use of pathos.…

It is the early bird that catches the worm as to the people that receives that short end of the stick. In today’s society, laziness is an unfavorable trait to most people, but some say different. American Essayist Christopher Morley crafted an essay titled “On Laziness,” with in the essay Morley uses diction, contradiction, and ethos to displays his purpose and enlighten the audience with a new perspective on laziness. His easily noticeable purpose could be to show the audience that they should be more willing to become more indolent. But, the deeper purpose that Morley displayed is that once a person has worked and involved themselves enough they finally deserve to impose an epiphany of why they are creating these problems in their life.…

The first step to successfully procrastinate is to have vast amounts of work and responsibilities that one does not want to do. This step is crucial, because without having work or responsibilities, one cannot start the process of procrastinating. The work can be any type of work, but it shows better results if it is a college essay due in a week from the day announced, due, or math homework due in a few hours. As for responsibilities, they can be anything one may dread such as going to the…
