However, college helps build on the basic knowledge you learned in high school. This may not seem important to a specific major a student is considering but it helps them develop their knowledge about life overall. This can help with decision making in a student’s regular life and working life improving not only their life but other people’s lives too. Helping to develop these simple skills can also help a student learn what they are interested in which can help decide some of their career paths instead of going into something they don’t enjoy. For instance, Conley states, “Mark Zuckerberg developed a successful company that allows him to make millions” (11). This makes it sound like Mark Zuckerberg just thought of the idea overnight and that anyone could just go from nothing to something in a day. However, the amount of people that are that successful without a college degree is very small. There are not enough jobs for all adults that are over 18. So, if we had a higher percentage of people that didn’t go to college we would likely have a much higher unemployment rate. Higher unemployment rates would hurt the government more because the government would have to use more tax payer dollars to provide for these people. With college costing thousands of dollars some of the money goes to the government as well which helps support some of the ideas to make our society better. Which means that some of that money can go towards making some of the jobs necessary for the people that are exiting college and need a job/ So although we don’t think of college helping our government it really helps to stabilize the economy in a few
