You Get What You Reward “An individual’s performance is based off of three things: Motivation (the desire to do the job), ability (the capability to do the job), and the work environment (the resources needed to do the job) (Griffin, 2015). When managers are hiring new employees they look for applicants that have the ability to fill the position and do the assignments required that they are needing to be occupied. After that, it is the mangers job to provide the employee with encouragement and a creative environment in order for them to reach their full potential. When someone is stuck doing the same thing every single day: come in at 9 a.m., sit at desk, answer emails, telephones, etc., enjoy a thirty minute lunch break, work on projected assigned from the manager, and go home by 5 p.m., it can be hard for them to continuously work as hard as they did on their first day on their one hundredth day. “Motivation is a set of forces that causes people to behave in certain ways” (Griffin, 2015). Individuals are complex so it can be hard to determine a way to motivate everyone. Motivation has to begin somewhere. In the “Fundamentals of Management”, it talks about the motivation framework. It begins with a need or deficiency, something that there is lack of. The book uses an example of a woman who feels like she is getting under paid. She might look for ways that she could increase her pay such as working harder, moving to a different position, or she might seek a new job…
