Proactive advertisements are some of the many that bring out an emotion in viewers to coax them into buying their product. Teenagers and adults watching the ad are mystified to believe this product can change their life. This type of emotional branding is used to get people to purchase and invest in their product. *add more* Mystification is defined by Berger as being the process of explaining away what might otherwise be evident. Every time someone turns on the television there are numerous amounts of advertisements playing. Each ad is targeted at a specific audience and each person watching the ad is put at risk to be mystified. Companies put millions of dollars into their advertisements because they know that people are easily manipulated if they showcase their product in the right way. Proactive ads do just that. Proactive is targeting mostly teenage girls and also some teenage boys. In the ad, the famous Katy Perry is the one talking about the product. She brings a huge influence to the people watching the ad because people tend to think that because she has all this fame and is so attractive she never deals with skin problems. Every teenage girl wants skin that glows and is beyond perfect but the reality is no one has that without the use of foundation and makeup. Proactive hires people like Katy Perry because of her influence and because of her strong fan base. Some viewers may even be a huge fan and will buy the product just because Katy Perry uses it. In the article Kilbourne states, “The stories that most influence our children these days are the stories told by advertisers.” This is just the case in this proactive ad. Having Katy Perry share her story and her insecurities shows that anyone striving for perfect skin can obtain it if they buy this
