Nowadays, people seems to be more preoccupied and distracted with what's happening around us, rather that what's happening in front of us. This is somehow because of the rapid increase of distractions available in our current generation. This millennial generation are indispensably obsessed with social media. More often than not, we tend to dwell on it too much that sometimes we forget to be here in the moment.
Honestly, sometimes, i am guilty of this. It took me awhile to notice that i am being taken away by the habit of checking on social media most of the time. I spent an insane amount of time on it. Not only social media has taken my mind off wandering around, it's the personal issues i had. It pointed me in this neurotic idea of spending on all varieties of things that bothers me. That caught me off guard. I felt bad as a mother. She was right, i was busy checking my social media—when she talks my mind is flying around somewhere. From then on, i told myself that i will do the best that i can to be in the present moment. As i consciously pay attention in pulling away to my old habit, my relationship with my daughter became more happier and alive. I appreciated everything about her more.
On a larger scale, living in the present moment is a big issue amongst this era. We forget that life is happening while we're busy making other plans. When we're busy in doing something else, our children are busy growing up, we disconnect to our loved ones, we miss out on opportunities, moments pass us by, our dreams slip away. Therefore, we miss out on life.
