I just knew that I was dead. When I woke up, I was in the hospital. I remember the cops asking me, “Ms. Lacy, can you tell me what happens?” For a while, I beat myself up for lying to the cops. The fear of what my family and friends would say if I told them the truth that I was on “Facebook.” I just lied; I told them I reach down to pick-up my phone. I remember my mom giving me that look as if she knew there was more to that story. But, she waited until I recovered to scream and tell me things like: “You know better!” “You almost died!” “You could have killed someone!” I thought to myself, “Put a sock in it lady,” even though I agreed because I knew she was right. After the accident, I decided to take a long vacation away from social media
