What Yolo Means To Me?

You only live once (YOLO). This topic hits home with me on a personal level, it made me think about the way I use the term versus the true meaning. Does it mean that I should be able to act with a reckless abandonment because I only have one life? Does it mean that I have one life and that I should live that life to the fullest because time waits for no one? To me, YOLO represents the regrets I feel through my high school experience. My life is full of regrets from things I wish I’d never done to things I wish I would have done. I wish I could wave a magic wand and go back in time, however, reality is that a do over is not possible. My goal from this point forward is to make the most my life. For me, YOLO truly means that you only live once so make the best of it, because if I sit around and

So, when I hear the term yolo I think about everything that I want to accomplish in my life. The things I want to do involve me having a good job and a lot of money, so when I think of yolo I think of everything I want for myself when I get older. I want to travel the world have a family, drive nice cars wear high end clothes, I want to be a part of elite class in this country. So when I hear yolo that is what I start to think about, God only gave me one chance to live this life so I shouldn’t waste my time hoping fortune just lands in my lap I need to go out there and make it happen if I want it. Life is way too short for me or anyone in particular to sit around and just wait for something to happen. Life is meant to be lived to the fullest and if I don’t take advantage of the opportunities that life gives me I’m not going to truly know what life had in store for me. If I don’t travel the world someone else will gladly do it for me, so the question is do I want someone else to live the life that I was destined to or do I want to take the risk to be the successful man I dream of

With the term “YOLO” (You only live once) comes a slippery slope of defective decisions; the term serves as a social excuse for premeditated mistakes. Taking calculated risks striving to prosper, and knowingly and recklessly making substandard decisions couldn’t be more disparate. “YOLO” and Carpe Diem are but distant cousins, with completely divergent connotations. Even considering “YOLO” a philosophy remains a mere overstatement.…

Sometimes we may not realize what we want at that moment and once we do it may feel impossible but there is always a route that can be taken. If we fail the first time we just need to try again until we can achieve those desires. In addition, the route we may have taken before or someone else has taken before may not be the same route we take the next time or the route that works for us. Every situation is different, but that just means it’s a different adventure each time.…

Richard E. Miller, the author of “The Dark Night of the Soul,” is asking us a very interesting and inspiring question that can be pretty complex. That question is, “What might the literate arts be said to be good for? (439)” This is a complex question, in for what he said that this question is to “animate the meditations that follow. (439)”…

Our lives are constantly shaped and influenced by hopes we want to achieve but may never come to pass. Similarly, we fear things and attempt to avoid them, but they never happen. Choices in life we make every day are constantly being influenced by hopes, dreams, and fears that never become actual. In the Shakespearean comedy Much Ado About Nothing, people let “nothing” influence their lives.…

Every single day there are many decisions that need to be made. Choices that can be as little as wake up time and some that are as big as choosing which college to attend. Most people grow up making decisions based upon their own happiness or because they want to follow in the steps of one of their role models. I didn’t have any role models or someone that I wanted to strive to become. Because I didn't want to base my entire life on someone else’s, I had to learn about what drives a person and what makes someone motivated to do common, everyday tasks.…

Never Give in Never Back Down Joseph Campbell, a scholar, summarized that we all have a journey yet to be traveled in our lives, we just need to wait for our call to adventure. I know many people. Some of them are amazing at a sport in which I only possess mediocre skills in, others are able to maintain their high standard GPA's, while others keep their commendable reputations of perfectness. So, I know many meritable people, and then there is me, and for a girl who has failed so many times in her life ( tests, sports, a vain attempt at artistic skills) it becomes a little delusive to continue to believe that one day I will "triumph." That one day I will "get my time to shine. " You eventually grow accustomed to always hearing "no", receiving the letter that reads "we are sorry to inform you that..." or simply having another door shut right into your face, and after a while, per say my sixteen years of life in…

Part of your most recent plan was to be here now, you chose this human existence that you are currently experiencing, you pre- planned every detail of your life in order to gain the maximum learning and adventure, and you choose to exit when you have completed all the experiences you planned for yourself. The world away from this world (the universe) is not separate from us, it is not some far away mystery; it is a logical, functioning, populated, progressive, divine place! Much like here on earth (without all the stuff), except here on earth we have temporarily forgotten the divine and infinite bits of ourselves! If I can be a bit honest here, as humans we have become self-obsessed, self-absorbed and rather blinded by our own self-importance.…
