The formation of and present common law in Australia regarding settler interests and land claims demonstrates indigenous title to be an inferior and less important form of land ownership to that of white Australian interests. I will explain in this essay the prejudices and mistreatment of indigenous persons and their incessant struggle for land claims against the white European settlers, as demonstrated in the Yorta Yorta land claim case. I will also discuss the misconception and misrepresentation of the indigenous people’s intellect and capability of living humble and functional lives alongside the white settlers as demonstrated possible in the Coranderrk inquiry. I will discuss how overtime the Indigenous people’s basic human rights and land…
As we age we start to worry about our family, specifically our parents. Who is going to take care of them, are they going to be able to stay at home, how much assistance are they going to need, is my sibling going to step in and help or am I going to be caring for them by myself? All of these questions can be overwhelming and cannot be answered until they actually happen. As we saw in Angels Preach a lot goes into caregiving and decision making for what is best for are loved one. I thought this movie did a really good job about dismissing the stereotypes to caregiving, but it also show how Alzheimer’s can affect everyone in the family, and how moving elders with Alzheimer’s out of their homes is not the best option.…
Even though, she had many thoughts about it. She still cared for them and did her best for them. Also while doing that, she found herself back to doing what she loved and not being sick all the time. Sometimes in life, no one can tell you what to do or how you should feel because your mind and body will eventually find its own way back to…
Hi Yolanda, The reason Ron is asking this question because my team is conducting UAT testing right now. They have advised me that BCRTEMP agreement codes are in the provider’s file and the claims are trying to retrieve pricing from this agreement. However, this is not happening on all the claims, just some. We need to know, going forward if we see BCRTEMP’s configuring claims then we have back up to send an e-mail advising the error for correction.…
A person’s autonomy is a privilege that is earned through the knowledge gained through life experiences. For children, the right to decide is withdrawn because the parent’s are thought to know what is best in the circumstances concerning their children. The ability to understand and comprehend the severity of illness or the consequences of decisions is lacking in adolescents. They are deemed incapable of making informed decisions thus incompetent; therefore, the parents are given the authority to provide or deny consent on behalf of their children. Similarly, elderly who are experiencing deteriorating illnesses may have an altered competence due to being in denial or having fear of the outcome.…
The Staff of Life Care had an Ethical responsibility and the duty to speak up for their patients’ rights regardless of the conflict it may have cause them with colleagues or opposing authorities. Also, Provision four of the Code of Ethics for Nurses states that it is in the authority of the nurse to delegate tasks to promote optimum care for their patients (Brown 2015). This did not occur with these patients. Life Care staff passively allowed Memorial to make decision regarding the care of patient they were ultimately responsible for. The instead of being assertive and advocating they relinquished their power and…
The principle of autonomy would oppose Dr. Rest decision to keep her patients in the dark about an illness. In concluding that the patients should not be informed that they are at risk of developing Alzheimer would take away their right to be self-determining. In not informing them Dr. Rest hinders a humans’ unique qualification to decide what is in their best interest. She predicts that informing the patients that they could suffer from Alzheimer would “cause them distress and unhappiness”. Hence she is choosing for her patients what she believes is right and in the process lessening their position as a person.…
Early onset familial Alzheimer’s Disease is an autosomal dominant genetic mutation which affects only a few hundred people nationwide. The Genetics’ video spoke of the positives and negatives of genetic testing in familial Alzheimer's and its effects on clients. The video beautifully demonstrated the personal choice that comes with genetic testing of life-changing disease. The DeMoe family discussed that some family members chose not to be tested and it was acceptable to make that decision. Negatively, the video discusses the realization that genetic testing in research will likely not benefit the patient directly or possibly anyone in their lifetime.…
The story of Arthur Cropsey is only one of the many cases of elder abuse. But this case was different from others because Arthur’s sister reported the financial abuse made by her own daughter. During the interview, Anne did not indicate for how long his brother was alone in the home after his wife died. But it was obviously that Arthur was alone for several months because she observed many checks and bills in the house when she saw him for the first time. This result that Arthur suffered self-neglect and abandonment abuse at the beginning because he could not perform self-care due to his dementia and did not have caregiver who could take care of his daily needs.…
Introduction: The Case of the Careless Caregiver is about the care of Grace H who retired 10 years ago as a high school English teacher in Pine Junction, due to early signs of dementia. After her retirement from teaching, Grace went to live at Happy Valley Nursing Home where her Dementia progressed into Alzheimer’s disease. After living at Happy Valley Nursing Home for nine years and appears to be content with her living situation, Grace started showing marked changes , like eating less, staying in bed, complaining of being tired, and being paler than usual. After consulting with her staff the Director of Nursing at the nursing home decided to send Grace to the hospital to see what was causing her listlessness, where her treating physician…

This situation could have never existed as a growing ethical issue if Gey had told the family from the beginning and included them in the growing wealth profits from the He-La cells. It is unknown as to why he chose to not tell the family. Many factors could have contributed to this such as the segregation of the hospital in which she was treated or the culture of the times. One ethical principle that also is found to be violated in this case is beneficence, or the duty to do good (Ethical principles in health care, 2016). It is easy to see how the researcher, Gey, did not do good by not informing and including Lacks or the family.…
When I first read the title of the movie, I did not think that it was going to be about Alzheimer disease. “Still Alice” appears to be a positive movie title. Consequently, I thought that the movie would be based on something positive. While I watched the movie, I learned that the character is facing the hardship of a rare disease (familial Alzheimer’s disease). The biggest question if whether the character is still Alice because of the changes that she is going through with her disease.…
