“Do. Or do not. There is no try.” Yoda (George Lucas)
This is the story of my life written by me, Nevada Nicolette, born with a hearing deficiency now applying to your academic institution.
In the book of life, the intricacies of the main character cannot be deciphered by just glancing at the cover, one must look deeper. In the first few chapters the main character has faced many obstacles during her journey. This individual needed to overcome her disability by going to speech therapy, visiting many specialists, and learning how to cope with being slightly different. She would employ all resources at her disposal to overcome her shyness, and her ambiguities not wanting the stereotype of a challenged child. She indulged in learning, and channeled

As the story unfolds, she receives the greatest gift from an unlikely source; a gift that has enabled her to refine her personality, and liberate her inhibitions. The events that would occur during this Mid-October afternoon was extraordinary. Tennis practice had just concluded when she received the call. Her mom began explaining the day’s ordeal that has stripped her pup of his vision, leaving him understandably anxious and lethargic. She knew how her disability had affected her, and the thoughts of his tragic and abrupt experience were devastating. She entered crying, unsure what to expect. He heard someone come in and sensed it was her. He immediately began charging towards her, slamming into nearly everything in his path to greet her, as he normally would. To the extent that she could see he was the same joyful friend that would greet her every day. Their routine continued, soon asking him to fetch his baby, he immediately turned and started his search. The quest was lengthy, however, he was successful. His persistence was remarkable. I can definitely relate to Gualinto’s character in the manner that I consider myself both Mexican and American as well as being part of a new culture all on its own platform, Hispanic. Similar to my stance, Gualinto yearned to belong and adapt successfully to both worlds while always recognizing that, “he was not an immigrant come to a foreign land,” despite other’s beliefs; unfortunately, in today’s world there are still some individuals that see Mexican Americans as foreigners in the land of Anglos and make it hard for us to live peacefully in our communities. (148) Moreover, I do believe that racism continues to exist in this world and people look down on individuals that come from different backgrounds; hence, Trump and his outspoken negative…

My college career at Western Washington University started with the desire of one day becoming a speech language pathologist. My passion for the field had already been cultivated by an internship that I acquired during my senior year of high school for 60-hours in early intervention SLP services. While most of my high school classmates had aspirations of meeting new people and having fun in college, I had dreams of getting the opportunity to observe and work in the speech clinic at WWU; unfortunately, all of those dreams seemed to come to a startling halt only a couple months into my college career. During my freshman year of college, my family was suffering from the recession and we lost our home in December of 2012. This moment in my life…
