Ye's Club Experience

Improved Essays
Throughout my high school career, an important experience for me has been being the president of the Young Environmentalist Society, Y.E.S. Club, at my school. My Junior year I heard about the club, but it was inactive around the school. Being a person passionate about the environment, it was important for me to get the club more involved and to make the school more environmentally aware. My interest in the environment led me to take the leadership role in the club of being president; I started to lead the meetings and organize activities. It was also a chance for me to hear new ideas from other students and to bring them together. Being a leader has allowed me to grow as a person, intellectually and personally.

Being the president of Y.E.S. Club, however, let me explore my leadership capabilities. Before taking this leadership role, I dreaded public speaking, but having this experience has made me more comfortable in front of large groups. For example, I set up a booth at my high school and talked to my peers about the club and its importance, which let me practice public speaking and communicating my ideas clearly. Also, in order to organize club activities, I have had the experience of presenting project ideas to administration in order to get approval. My love of protecting the planet and its’ inhabitants helped me use my organization skills, and it showed me that I am capable of being a leader.
This leadership experience has been enjoyable, while being beneficial to me as well. My reasoning for joining Y.E.S. Club was to impact my surroundings positively, but along the way I have learned that being a leader does not have to mean controlling everything, but more initiating productivity and promoting compromise. I am grateful to have had such an opportunity as to better my public speaking capabilities; through this experience, I have grown to enjoy my leadership position, and I look forward to having more leadership opportunities to help me grow as a person and as a

This national organization provides me with countless opportunities to showcase my leadership abilities in my school, community, and state. Obtaining the positions of Vice President and President of my high school FFA chapter has had an enormous impact on my life. These positions led to serving on nominating committees, planning community events, attending leadership conventions and conferences, and participating in a state-qualifying parliamentary procedure team. It was these experiences that gave me a passion for public speaking and Agribusiness.…

One of the most important extracurricular activities I have been a leader in is the JROTC program. This program has provided me with so many opportunities, whether it be to learn about myself or to serve others. For example, my involvement with the color guard helped me develop confidence in my abilities, and therefore helped me learn valuable leadership skills I would later apply to being commander of the team, then personnel adjutant, and ultimately battalion commander. Through being mentored and encouraged by others, I discovered I had the potential to be a leader. As a result of my involvement in the program, I have become more self-confident, and among other things, I have learned the importance of turning failures into success.…

My most significant leadership experience would be when I was in the Girls Varsity Tennis Team. I had been in the tennis team during my highschool years, for 2 years. During that time I learned a lot about being a leader, such as what it means to lead others, and what qualities a leader should have. When I first started playing tennis I started at the position on 2nd doubles, to me I took it as that I was not good enough to play against an opponent by myself on the court. Which was entirely true, because when I began playing I was not any good whatsoever.…

Taking a role in something that will help even one person can mean so much and give you greater things in return. Just knowing that you helped and taught someone to make them a better person should be a wonderful accomplishment. A leader does not mean you have to go and do something outrageous; the little things mean more than the big once in a while. Last…
