The stage of depression is shown in this story when the narrator is unable to do what she loves, which is wiring. The yellow wallpaper represents the oppression of women, the wallpaper is simply an ugly patter and unpleasing to the eyes. The paper on the wall forces the narrator is go crazy it goes on and on and makes no sense to her, but her emotional state starts to change all of a sudden. Over the course of the story, the narrators begins to find comfort in the ugly yellow wallpaper. She gradually begins to see a female figure trapped behind the patter of the wallpaper and realizes that both she and the figure was suffering from oppression and imprisonment. The problems that she is faced with are horrible and really helps provides the audience with an idea about how she solves these issues. The yellow wallpaper does not help her emotional state either, by making her feel trapped inside the room. Finally, the audience gets the sense of who she is throughout the story and how strong this character actually is. No one should feel trapped in their own house or feel like they are going insane when they really are not. This character really sticks out in the story not only because she is the narrator, but also because she provides the audience with certain information that makes the audience kind of feel crazy
