It is quite a shame for some people who believe that men are still the superior gender of today’s society, even after all that has happened in the past: from women gaining the right to vote to the burning of their bras. Since the beginning of time, men and women have not been seen as equals. The Nazis forced Jews to wear the yellow Star of David for many reasons. Nazis forced Jews over the age of 10 to wear it, even if they liked it or not. To a Jew, wearing the yellow star was just as unpleasant as dying, provided that the Nazis would kill a Jew if he declined to wear it. The Nazis did this to separate the Jews from everybody else, which was a visual way to discriminate and put them into a state of embarrassment. The yellow Star of David earned the name, “The Mark of Disgrace,” as stated by Douglas Charing in the book, Judaism.…

The book Night, by Elie Wiesel, is an autobiography of the author’s experiences in the Holocaust, particularly the brutality and inhumanity found in concentration camps. To help convey the severity of the situation, Wiesel uses irony. Throughout Night, the author portrays irony to express the obliviousness Jews possessed during the Holocaust and emphasize how the concentration camps affect prisoners not only physically, but also mentally. In many situations, the Jews had false hope and were too blind to predict the atrocities that would be forced upon them.…

Joseph Mallord William Turner was an English artist who gained notoriety from his landscape paintings that utilize the dynamic lights that illuminate the scenery he builds. Joseph Turner’s work innovated and popularized landscape painting, which laid the foundation for impressionism to come into prevalence after the Romantic period. This is observed in his painting Rockets and Blue Lights, painted in 1840 with oil on canvas. Rockets and Blue Lights displays a coastal view of the ocean that sprawls across the canvas.
