Native and endemic to the tropical and subtropical locations of Africa and South America, these areas are where Yellow Fever is most prevalent. According to Klitting, Roth, Rey, and Lambellerie, “Yellow Fever Virus was named after the jaundice characteristic of the liver dysfunction caused by the infection with Yellow Fever Virus (YFV)” (Klitting, Roth, Rey, and Lambellerie, 2018). Yellow Fever virus belongs to the genus Flavivirus; which is inclusive of more than 60 covered or enveloped, positive/single stranded RNA viruses. Per the Center …show more content…
As stated by Klitting et al. the results were, “a Reproduction of a lethal, viscerotropic infection in young female hamsters (Mesocricetus Auratus) using YFV strain Ap7M” (Klitting et al., 2018). In other words, the scientists had ended with a reproduction of the viscerotropic infection seen in humans but replicated in the Syrian Golden hamsters. As stated beforehand this study had no hypothesis to test aside from replicating the conditions of yellow fever in a human to a hamster. The results are significant because with the results of this study it shows that if an uncurable virus can be replicated synthetically in a controlled environment then the lead to a cure is not that far away. This study can point towards further testing or studies because if the group can recreate the virus in hamsters then with greater minds and funding maybe the same group can find a cure to Yellow Fever. Not only that but it can lead to other groups performing similar tasks and then can either identify and replicate uncurable viruses to make a
