Yekl In 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'

TS: Yekl’s arrogant and complex personality stems from his blindness to see reality, his appearance that contradicts his reality, and the past haunting his consciousness. Appearances wise, Yekl portrays himself to be a well-put-together martyr and a confident true Yankee. He attracts all of the ladies at the dance school easily and was highly thought of by the people around him. He appears to have his life together and everything that would follow a successful life style. A true noble man with good morals and values. In reality, that is far from the truth! The personality traits of a true Yankee are someone who is “independent, responsible, and frugal” (Butler-sweet). Yekl is far from obtaining those personality traits because of how arrogant

A Midsummer Night’s Dream written by the poet and playwright William Shakespeare(1564-1616), was first published in the Quarto edition in 1600, although it is suggested, that this play was ‘first put on in court in 1595’ (Salgado, 1975: p. 116).Whether this play was made in the early 1580s or later than that, became a controversial matter. Francis Meres’ in his Palladis Tamia Wits Treasury (1598), mentioned A Midsummer Night’s Dream as ‘one of a dozen Shakespeare plays’(Stritmatter, 2006:…

This relates to what Shakespeare wants during his play, respect for the actors. Shakespeare is saying that no matter the performance or lack of talent that the actors convey, the audience should respect them and everything they are doing. Dill is one of the many “mockingbirds” in the story. During Tom Robinson's trial, we begin to see mainly how Dill is a symbolic “mockingbird”. Atticus is Tom Robinson’s lawyer and Mr. Gilmore is Atticus’ “legal rivalry”. Dill notices that Atticus treats everyone with respect, but Mr. Gilmore treats Tom Robinson with rudeness and hatred. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is in essence a comedy, drawing together many themes with satirical and romantic humor that still attract large audiences today; it therefore can be considered comic not only due to the literary devices Shakespeare uses but because it has filled audiences with mirth for over four hundred years. In the extract Shakespeare carefully hints towards the social constraints which imprison the two 'lovers ' through the juxtaposition of class. The comic effect this produces is pronounced due to both characters not viewing this as a barrier, regardless of the late Tudor dynasty who viewed it with lofty contempt. Furthermore this would 've been highly satirical for the audience for example, 'I…

William Shakespeare is known for his elaborately poetic stories of love, loss and everything magical, and the play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, is no exception. Through the use of the literary device known as metaphor, where hidden meanings between two objects or people can be used to expand the meaning and symbolism in writings such as plays. Based around the development of characters through their words rather than long descriptions, play writes include literary devices such as metaphors to enhance their writing. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, some of the characters go through a great deal of pain and hardship to find true love, and an underlying struggle for dominance proceeds to develop the characters into strong individuals. The Necessity of Chaos and Order As Carl G. Jung said, “In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret disorder.” The essence of this quote closely relates to the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare in which the path of love requires both chaos and order. The creation of chaos to derive order is necessary for the couples in A Midsummer Night’s Dream to end up happy. This is shown in the course of love between the couples Lysander and Hermia, Demetrius and Helena, and Oberon and Titania.…

In A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, there are two prominent settings with opposing forces that are central to the context of the play. These two different settings explain Shakespeare’s underlying messages and themes that he wanted to convey to his audience. The setting the readers are introduced to first, Athens, is meant to represent the harshness of the real world, while the other main location, the forest, has a more lovable and happier notion. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the dissimilarities of the setting enhance the mood and conflicts, represent different ideas and themes, and portray Shakespeare’s personal ideas about how true love can overcome obstacles, especially with the help of imagination and altered minds.…

William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is filled with details up to reader interpretation from hypothetical curtain open, to curtain close. If the title of the play did not give it away, dreams are obviously at the forefront of these interpretations. Shakespeare’s play is a story of dreams and magic versus the harsh reality of love and real life. It follows, primarily, a few different groups of characters: there are four young lovers (Helena, Hermia, Demetrius, and Lysander) who form a convoluted sort of love-quadrilateral, if you will (initially, Hermia and Lysander are in love while Helena loves Demetrius but Demetrius loves Hermia); there is a company of amateur and unprofessional actors, most importantly a weaver named Nick Bottom,…
