Yearbook personal reflection
Yearbook is a class filled with energy, enthusiasm, and love for what we do. We are not only a class but a force that work together to achieve great things. Though being perfect is impossible, we the yearbook staff think differently and strive to perfection year after year. Being a part of yearbook is an honor, and I take pride in what I have accomplished this year. When I first joined yearbook I didn’t know what to expect. Was I going to be taking pictures? writing stories? Interviewing people? Would I be working in the arts department or faculty and staff? In the end I ended up doing everything! It was confusing at first, writing captions, taking interviews, learning to take the right kind of photos but with

I have learned a great deal and made the best friends. Firstly, I have studied and improved my grammar by a huge margin. This is one of the most useful skills, as my grammar was weak, but thanks to yearbook I have improved and am on the track to being a great writer. The second most crucial skill that I have learned is communication. I was not the most confident girl and was hesitant to talk to strangers. This has been rectified due to the business advertisements I have had to sell and the countless interviews that I have taken. The third most important skill is taking photos. I have always loved and enjoyed photography but did not get enough chances to practice my love for photography. Yearbook has been able to provide me a great field for photos and I have learned a lot on how to improve my photography skills due to the workshop and practice. The other skills I have learned are time management and meeting deadlines which will play a great role in my future. When I first learned that if we do not meet a deadline we would lose money, I was terrified it was hard to believe that I was part of such a big responsibility. Yearbook has helped me understand how to meet deadlines and how to utilize my time. These skills are going to stay with me forever and help me grow and be a more responsible

Senior year, I became co-editor of the high school yearbook in a time of upheaval. Not only did yearbook no longer have a set class time, but the new yearbook teacher also had no experience with publications. Slowly, the after-school yearbook organization was whittled down to eight regularly contributing members. To meet the deadlines, my co-editor and I took action to reorganize the page assignments and to put in more hours at home. We also began communicating more with other members to ask for their input on pages.…

One of the pillars of National Honors Society is that of leadership. Members are expected to direct and motivate their peers. I believe I exemplify leadership skills through my position as a manager of the yearbook. I am extremely passionate about creating Yorktown’s yearbook, which is why I was thrilled to be given such a great responsibility this year. The task takes plenty of time and effort, however, my dedication to the class makes it all worthwhile.…

While looking through stacks of pictures I realize how important the memories in the photos are to me. One particular photo, from ninth grade, is especially significant to me not because of how I or my friends look, but because of how much my life has changed in the few years since I began high school. Walking through the doors of Bartram trail High School my first day freshman year was the start of who I was and who I would become. Today and I am a bigger and better person than I was the first day of high school as I have become the person I wish to be and I have high school to thank for that, but more importantly I have Link Crew to thank. Link Crew is a part of the Project Boomerang program created for freshmen, designed to help freshmen adjust from middle school to high school with assistance from upperclassmen who are able to share insight about their high school experiences.…

Back in middle school, I was a part of National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). We were the largest class to be inducted into NJHS. Being such a large class meant we would have to raise a lot of money if we expected to reach our goal. Our goal was to raise enough money for our trip to the Lead Conference at Washington, D.C.…

The opportunities granted by FIU Honors are a necessity to become truly educated and to be a prominent member of the community and of the workforce. It would be such an honor to become a student in this prestigious program. The five pillars of FIU Honors are research skills, interdisciplinary/connectivity, global learning, appreciation of the global arts, and leadership/community engagement; all are concepts that I want to be able to achieve as a college student, and FIU Honors will force me to realize these goals. Frankly, I had never heard of the FIU honors college prior to a couple weeks ago.…

As this unit is coming to a close and we will be taking our first test, I was curious if Shannon Hall at Lakeland High School could proctor this test for me. She teaches English 175 at Lakeland and said that she would be happy to do so if this was approved by you. I would like to take the test Tuesday, February 14 during my free periods at LHS, allowing me the rest of the week to work on the essay for Week 6.…

As I came to college, my family and I anticipated I would be following a simple mold of a conscientious student. One that is highly focused in some limited number of long term goals. Don 't get me wrong, this only meant that I had high expectations out of my college education. For some people, this path leads them to great success. But, I slowly realized my vision of success needed to have stories from different roads and bridges, than just one simple path.…

Over the first semester I feel I have been appropriately challenged in the area of writing we have done this year. Because I never paid close attention to specific rules in how to write. I truly believe it has been hard for me.…

English 219 was my first college level English course, and through attending and completing all of the assignments I have learned many skills that I believe will greatly help me in my future courses in college. Next semester I am enrolled in English 220, and after having taken this course I feel substantially better about continuing on with English courses at a college level. It has helped me to become more confident in my writing skills and provided me with an excellent basis for me to continue on with next semester, and throughout the rest of my schooling experience. Throughout this class I have learned many things, but perhaps the most important is the steps to writing an essay, and the planning options.…

I feel that I was able to accomplish this because of my hard work and great feedback that I have received from my classmates. My other important goal I had for myself was to fix all of my grammar errors which have haunted me throughout my entire educational career. I am most certain that I accomplished this goal mostly because of the help of my handbook without it I might have still been lost. I mostly feel proud of how well I did in my narrative essay because that was a first for me and was also the one that stressed me out the most. After completing it I found that it was really not that difficult the basic thing is just to tell a story about yourself and adding sources to provide backup.…

Teaching is one of the most critical aspects of education that cannot be done without experience. It is one thing to learn about what occurs in a classroom and it is the other to practice teaching and experience what goes on in the classroom by yourself. As a student who is interested in going into secondary education, working at Ithaca High School AVID Program as a part of the course introduced me to what I would experience about 5 years from now. Most times it brought me back to when I was in high school which overall affected many different decisions I made regarding how students should learn and ultimately be on a path to success.…
