Part of Year Up’s goal is to make their students EPIC. While each component is equally important, the part I hear about the most is “professional.” As a Year Up student, developing our professional brand is key in the Learning and Development phase. Based on the EPIC Evaluations we received last Friday, my professional attitude and attire are excellent. The few characteristics I have to work on would be my time management, displaying leadership skills, and actively displaying the technical skills I have developed outside the classroom. Before Year Up, I had already developed some characteristics of a young professional. When completing assignments, I am a perfectionist. I find myself spending an immense amount of time on ensuring I submit quality work. If I am having an issue with an assignment, I do not hesitate to ask for further clarity on the matter. Attendance-wise, I always make sure that I give myself enough time …show more content…
My overall communication skills have never been better. I find myself trying to increase my vocabulary, learning different communication techniques, and speaking up for myself more often. Using e-mails and writing business letters had been a foreign subject to me; there has been an incredible change in my professional writing. The greatest change I have seen in myself would have to be my professional attire. I rarely had dress professionally before joining this program. I did not know what to shop for or how the attire was supposed to fit. I felt incredibly awkward and uncomfortable in that type of clothing. I now enjoy dressing in my professional attire, and it is a great boost in my levels of confidence. I found that my attire had changed my attitude when it came to the quality of my work; I have always cared about my work but never to that extent.
