Some of the teachers that became teachers might’ve wanted that job so that they could have the three-month summer break. Teachers may use that summer break for summer college to learn more about a subject or get better at certain things. The three-month break is also like their vacation time, so when there is year-round schooling they really don’t have time to go on vacation because during the breaks they are usually still on campus. Teachers have also had problems with getting students to focus just before and after breaks because students look forward to the break and when they get back from break their minds are still focused on the break, and it’s hard on the students as well as the teachers because there are more. First the families end up spending more money because the school costs more. There is no summer school so the students can’t get the credits that they would get from it. The breaks also cause problems for the students who have a summer job or like volunteering because instead of having those three months to work they only have up to 30 days per break.(Calendars) Also because of being in school year-round and having shorter breaks, the students may spend more time at the school for help during the breaks which can lead to family and community disintegration. (Gavin2) Another disadvantage is for foreign exchange students or students living in a dorm because they have less time to go home and stay with their parents because some of the breaks aren’t long enough for them to go home and because there are more, if they decide to go home it may cost a lot of money for plane tickets or the gas for a car. Students also find it hard to pay attention which correlates with what teachers say about how they noticed their students have a hard time staying focused. For students who may want to take AP classes, they may not be able to because sometimes they are removed. Many people may think that year-round schooling is more helpful to students, but according to Ohio State University they found that there are really no differences between year-round and traditional schedules.
