Along with year round education there are many more steps schools can implement to bring up educational results. Extending the school day is a low cost option, the day to day cost increases very little and the resulting increase in learning time is invaluable. By adding just 15 minutes to the school day will net seven extra days of instruction at the end of the year. Mandating after-school tutoring programs in economically disadvantaged areas would help all learners grasp concepts faster. This leaves summer learning sessions open to reaching students with special interests or exposing students to life skills and careers in addition to the time needed to rest and relax from school pressures.
