By 6am. Ellis is already up and on the move. He makes his way across the north side of the city checking in on his three recording studios and the artist signed to his music label the “Sling Shot Movement Group.”
When you break it down Yaves Ellis is a Christian rapper. He started at the age of seven and was signed to a major record label by the time he was 12. It was a passion that started after he’d seen the rap duo of Kriss-Kross and has remained a passion for a man now in his thirties.

By 7 am, he arrives at his day-to-day job working as the Public Affairs Director for the Radio One conglomerate.
Along with that position Ellis is the host of a Sunday morning radio show entitled “Any Given Sunday.” The show provides commentary and insight to an audience of over 200,000 listeners on social issues that take place in the city.
After a seven hour day of filled with brainstorming, phone calls and dealing with 100 of different face Ellis moves on to what he considered to be the most important job of his four-pronged day.
“By 1 pm, I’m at New Birth (Christian Ministries) where I’m the youth pastor now,” Ellis said. “Most of the time I am talking with different kids helping them with whatever they’re going through.”

The minsters attention is shifted to politics. He works closely with the mayor of Columbus as one of 25 advisors that

Ellis is not a social activist. He’s not a politician. In his opinion he just another citizen that wants the best for his city. His friends always about how he should think about running for mayor one day, but for him that would defeat the purpose. In some ways having that type of power can be the problem.
He’s ok with just being another positive role model in the community. It keeps him honest and his work pure. There’s no hidden agenda, no other intentions or strings attached.
“Sometimes putting a title on something can cause more problems and do more harm than good,” Ellis said. “This is something I’d rather do because I care than because the pay check looks good.”
Once 10 pm comes around it’s strictly about family. Everything else going on is put on the back burner until the next day.
Ellis was recently married and considers it to this day to be his greatest accomplishment. It was something that for a long time he didn’t think he was capable of doing. It wasn’t something that he was accustomed
