My state report is about the state of Wyoming. I chose this state because I want to know more about it. Wyoming became a state on July 10, 1890. It is the 44th state in the Union, Cheyenne became its capital and nicknamed Equality State, or Big Wyoming or the Cowboy State. The state tree is Plains Cottonwood and the state flower is the Indian Paintbrush. The state animal is the bison also known as a buffalo and the state bird is the Western Meadowlark. The population of Wyoming was 493,782 according to the 2000 census and the two bordering states are Utah and Colorado to the south.

while the lowest point is the Belle Fourche River at 3,099 ft above sea level. Wyoming is the 10th largest state but ranks the 50th in population (2000 census). Fun places to visit in Wyoming are the Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Teton National Park, Devil’s Tower National Monument and the Fossil Butte National Monument. In Cheyenne, the capitol building, the Depot Museum and the Street Railway Trolley are some of the fun places to visit. The Curt Gowdy State Park offers trout and salmon fishing while the Vedauwoo Recreation Area is for hiking and biking. Other places to visit, are the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, Cody, WY and the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, WY. Every January is the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race across Wyoming. In June (around father’s day), is the Woodchoppers Jamboree and Rodeo, in Encampment, WY. Curt Gowdy was born in 1919 in Green River, WY was a sportscaster famously known as the voice of Boston Red Sox. Harrison Ford lives in an 800-acre ranch in Jackson, WY, is an actor in the Indiana Jones series, Star Wars Trilogy and The Force Awakens. Jesse Garcia is from Rawlins, WY, born in 1982 and grew up in Hanna, WY, an actor in the movie Quinceanera and won Best Actor at the 2007 ALMA (American Latino Media Arts)
