Ww1 Letter To Father

To my dearest mother and father, Well, since I have an abundance of time, I want to write you again. How are you all doing? I long for the day in which I can finally see real family again with my own eyes. I am writing this letter to you from a muddy trench under constant bombardment. I have now almost lost all my hearing in my left ear, although consider this lucky, many of my brothers out here have lost their lives. I miss having dry socks, a bed to sleep in, and the comfort of a mother right now the most. This god forsaken war just continues to ramble on without delay. The other day I saw a rat, it made me think of my cat Alvin, how is he? is he finally not having accidents everywhere? I guess this is how desperate I am of getting back home.
I never would have thought war would be like this. Good men just like me getting blown up right beside me. I have had supper with one fellow and the next morning was dead. The way war is portrayed back home is not how it truly is. Having to sleep next to a dead man is not the best, however at least I live to write to you. If only this war was over, I'm not really sure what i'm doing out here in this trench. I dread

As you know, John was killed, I would never forget the look on his face, it haunts me every minute of every day. He looked as if he thought this would never happen with a look a sheer pain and a look of shock. I just hope that I am contributing to a good cause for the sake of you and the people back home. I am dying for a home cooked meal from you mother, I would greatly appreciate it if you could send me a little treat, or maybe some dry socks. The last thing I need is a foot infection on top of all this. If I shall perish in this war, you will be happy to know that you will always be first and last on my mind.Give my love to the rest of the family, and please write back, I will make sure to write every month or

How would it feel to be a U.S. army soldier and have given all to your country; then in return, left for dead, forgotten, presumed to be dead? How could a soldier cope with the impending death that loomed over your shoulder? These questions are answered by one man who did not forget and wants to tell the rest of the world of what he found, Hampton Sides. He is the author of the stellar nonfiction book Ghost Soldiers published by Doubleday, Random house, Inc in June of 2001. The retelling of what really happened to these men provides personal experiences of the brave Rangers, Guerillas, and Prisoners of War to bring you right into the battle scene and thoughts of the characters.…

The familiar sound of wheezing fills my ears. Exactly then I know a letter will be sent to a praying family whose hopes will fade into merely a memory and in the morning we will be burying one of our men, who never will get to see his children grow up in a land free from the tyranny of Britain. Every night I went to sleep there was the fear that I might not be able to move in the morning or even wake up. While “the British were comfortably quartered” the Americans were struggling to get by (Roden 141). Recently “General Washington has had trouble keeping his army intact in Valley Forge” (Roden 141).…

I take the letter in my hand and slowly rip open the paper. The letter is from Bill Clinton, the president of the U.S. My eyes scan the letter . It explains how deeply sorry all Americans are for what they did to us. This reminds me of the journals I kept, dating back to a few months before I had to leave for Tule Lake .…

I am writing to thank you for your service to the United States and wish you a happy Veterans Day. The magnitude of your selflessness and courage is incomprehensible to me, and though these may be trite words, I sincerely mean what I say. I can think of no experience more inherently laudable and worthy of profound respect than serving in the armed forces. What compounds my gratitude of your service specifically is your modesty in discussing your service. Indeed, I believe you mentioned your service only once or twice in class.…

I miss you and the others at home awfully, but the tedious past two years of battle have been in our favor, so at least my absence has been of some aid to the Confederacy. Life back at the plantation seems like a dream when you live as a soldier. Working on the vile-smelling fields with our slaves for hours upon hours will always appeal more to me than the copious hours of marching and drilling the generals put us through; the aching of my feet after every practice burns more than my throbbing fingers ever did. All of the pain endured because of my service cannot compare to the agony of being away from home so long. Calling what I feel “homesickness” would be a complete understatement.…

Husband, I am thinking of you every moment of the day. It is difficult to imagine that someone I love so much has been at war for this long. These past three years have been hard on our daughter and I. The higher authorities are being very difficult, newspapers are publishing information and propaganda is everywhere. The posters make it seem as if it is mandatory to go to war and if you enlist you are not a man but a coward.…

As an American, I believe that my home, the U.S., feels very safe and secure. The great soldiers of our time and before times created this feeling for my family and many others within our beautiful country. They gave us our education for us to have a successful career in our future and gave us all our rights and freedoms because of their bravery and toughness throughout the wars. I will always respect our veterans and will always have the thought in the back of my mind that it was you, the veterans, who made our country so wonderful to live in and always feel safe.…

A bitter and disgusted soldier stationed in Iraq from ‘03 to ‘04 writes his family back home to describe the rather uncomfortable conditions he is living in. He uses a variety of imagery, analogies, metaphors, and hyberboles to help them better understand what his life is like overseas. The soldier uses analogies to portray the lack of resources in Iraq. He tells his family to pack everything they would need for a 4 months - without Wal-mart. Knowing that Wal-mart is a common source back home, the soldier leads the reader to picture a life without the convenience or luxury of a grocery store.…

The poem “A Letter to Daddy” is written in a letter format, composed by a faithful son with a kind heart that yearns to see his father again. The boy describes how well he is currently living in the Scout camp during the Holocaust. The tone of the story consistently stays happy, despite the unfortunate fate he’s most likely headed to, along with his mother. Although the way the boy writes to his father remains strong and positive, it still made me feel downcast. Jewish people were treated as an outcast to society, and the boy was so appreciative of what he has, even through this dreadful experience.…
