We are fighting together along with the British. They want to help us just as much as we are willing to help them. The sinking of the Lusitania was just as much of a hit on them as it was for us. The daily reminder that we are fighting for the 126 Americans that died on that ship keep me going. When I look across, out into no-man’s land through the layers of barbed wire and ground mines and see the faces and guns of the Germany, hatred fills my heart. Knowing they want to hurt us and our allies is a weird concept. The way I look at it, I am fighting for our safety. I am not going to hurt anyone just because. I want to protect our rights and our land. We are reminded daily what these men are capable of. This war is a very new type of war. Not only do we have to watch out for the man on man combat, but the airplanes and tanks are a very high priority. This is less of a war and more of a killing spree. The general calls for a push and our men step out of the trenches into no man’s land and their machine guns mow us down as if we were grass. The first are almost guaranteed to take bullets for the rest of us. These are the men we just met a couple months ago and they have the guts to step out and give their lives for their countries and for this group of men here
