World War I was a gruesome war that lasted a little over 4 years. The war started with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria by a Yugoslav nationalist Gavrilo Princip on June 28, 1914. This caused a chain reaction that entangled international alliances and caused the major powers to be at war in just a couple of weeks. This was one of the causes of the war that started rebellion and eventually lead to the splitting of two separate powers, or groups. The two powers were the Ottoman Empire, or the Central Powers, and the Allied Powers. The Ottoman Empire included Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria. At the time, Germany had the strongest military forces and competed with Great Britain for the strongest Navy. This also helped push imperialism; another cause of the war. The countries were expanding the territories by using force and taking over smaller countries for more power. Many of the countries being taken over had raw sources that had not been used. All the competition lead to high tensions between the countries. This caused tensions as many countries started to take over smaller countries for resources and power. Not much could be done at the time to fight the tensions. The war tensions had started years before, while the Ottoman Empire was still very weak. The Ottoman Empire noticed how weak they were after losing the Balkan territory. After losing that territory, a large period of industrialization began to advance their technology. Although the Ottoman Empire was weak, their allies, the Central Powers, decided to help them and sustain them even with the lack of food, medicine and arms. World War I was the cause of over 9 million casualties and over 21 million were injured. It was a long treacherous war that lead to many industrial revolutions and the innovation of new technologies that advanced many nations worldwide. In the end, the Allies won the first World War after Germany signed to keep peace and agreed to end war. As for the cause of World War I, we may never know the true answer, but it has been thought that all the tensions and acts before the war that all came together to start the first World War.
