Between finishing high school and volunteering as much as I can at a local senior center my free time has been narrowed down to a solid five minutes and that’s more than okay with me because #LifeIsGreat. I’ve dedicated every free second I have to catching up on the news and finding out which Disney princess I am on Buzzfeed. As far as I’m concerned, I’ve been in the real world; the world full of people giving really important speeches and catchy music mashups. This world is weird. This world is real. The research I have done on my free time has completely opened up my mind and some of it has benefited me. Some of you are probably thinking: learning??? EWWW. Check me out though… With help from the crazy online world, I’ve been able to discover and buy food that can possibly lengthen my miniscule lifespan. I’ve come across bands who use instruments that I can’t even pronounce. I’ve learned about research that can possibly cure illnesses that have taken so many of our loved ones. I’ve watched speeches that passionate people dedicate their entire lives to teaching me about and I’ve learned that

We can learn anything we want. We can love anything and anyone. We can be anything we want to be. We can express ourselves, but so many of us don’t log off of Facebook to let the world see how great we really are. If you’re unsure of who you want to be no matter how old you are, I want you to know that, that’s totally okay! You’re going to be asked questions about your future and what your hearts wants, but just know that its more than okay to not have an answer yet. I know it may feel like everyone knows what they want to do next, but understand that it’s okay if “everyone” doesn’t include

Good morning/good afternoon ladies and gentlemen of the jury. Aldous Huxley, the author of the futuristic dystopian novel “Brave New World” is innocent in rightfully challenging the idea of a modern utopia. He invites the reader to challenge the ideal society as his writing is a cautionary tale and a warning to people that humanity may transform from being free independent people to slaves to our own greediness and society. “Brave New World” is a disturbing, loveless world and Huxley shows this through his writing, tapping into themes such as eugenics, behavioral conditioning, the use of advanced technology to control an entire society and showing an extreme but honest version of today’s economic standards. Huxley doesn’t mean to say that people would be happier if they were all genetically modified, nor…

While my college colleagues filled bookshelves with James Patterson novels, my library was quite different. The Tale of the Dueling Nuerosurgens, by Daniel Levitin and Sam Kean sat atop my bedroom dresser. When I learned my aunt was diagnosed with Schizophrenia, I turned through the tear-stained pages and found out that she was in battle against her own brain. Mid 2012, I experienced an event that altered my entire life when my aunt, Kulbir Kaur, at the age of 28, was announced dead after taking her own life. I was enrolled as a student at California State University of East Bay at the time and on my visits back home, I could not understand why staying in a church with only a thin curtain separating her from an elderly priest seemed more appealing…

Life will forever be a learning experience. Years ago I was provided with the opportunity to be a part of many different communities around the world and experienced many different cultures. During my travels one trait that had planted its seed and decided to sprout, grow, and burst into life is benevolence. I’ve learned that there is nothing more productive to an individual or group than humanitarianism. I lived in Asia for four years during my military service.…

Jumping into the unknown has never deterred me. I enjoy, more than anything, the challenge of finding creative ways to solve problems. Last year I participated in the University of Delaware’s first Healthcare Hackathon: a 24-hour event where teams of students worked to develop solutions to Delaware’s healthcare and public health issues. My team and I were tasked with rising obesity levels. We worked overnight to create a plan which addressed the social and physical determinants of health by improving both access and affordability of fresh fruits and vegetables in Delaware’s food deserts.…

I was around 7 years old, when I first peregrinate to Virginia, which didn’t last as long as my mother wanted. When we moved here my father provided a nice townhouse for us. However, I would like to set them straight and prove that I have gained some worldly knowledge and experience over my lifetime so far. From growing up in the 90’s to being able to remember when cell phones first came out, to this now social media dominated world, I have discovered by means of trial and error how I view my life and they things I want in my life. I have also come to understand the value of money and the true importance of friendship.…
