Wtg 101 Reflection

When I considered taking WRTG 101 this semester I was unsure how much it would affect my writing style. I have always had issues with the strength of my writing and my overall writing style. Whether it was run on sentences, proper citations, an overall passive writing style, or proper use of pronouns my writing style needed a tune up. After taking this class I have an improved overall understanding of the writing process and how to apply it in different writing situations.

Run on Sentences were a concern before I took the class, however now I have a much better understanding of proper sentence structures. The grammar skills section in week two really helped me realize the depth of my run on sentence problems. I worked out many of the issues

After using them for several of the writing assignments for this course I realize how helpful some of these writing exercise can be. Using an outline to organize my thoughts and the primary focus of a paper helps me keep my paper on track and in line with the thesis statement. Freewriting was another concept that I used in the past, however not to its fullest effect. Breaking down sections of my paper and free writing on those individual sections really helped me overcome writing blocks and explore new ideas I might not have thought of otherwise. Working more extensively with rough drafts really removed some of the stress of my writing assignments. In the past I would try to complete the writing assignment in one sitting. Coming to the realization that an incomplete paper can help with the overall flow and fit of the assignment really helped me. The amount of writing I used to have to do after completing the paper has been reduced. The process of incrementally completing the entire paper from a first draft to complete has helped immensely for large writing assignments. These writing concepts helped to strengthen my writing method and made writing less of a chore for

    My personal experience and take away from English 111 was what I expected it would be before I started the course.
