It is an online portal that doctors and nurses can access in order to stay updated with their patient’s progress. This is the most important form of written communication that Marissa uses in her day. It is almost the most difficult writing that she does on the job because she has to update it every single time she talks to her patient. If Marissa doesn 't update the portal while she 's talking to the patient, then it is really easy to forget important details. Forgetting details can lead to having to redo tests or assessments, or completely losing data about urine output, fluid intake, or blood drains that can be really important if something depends on that data in the future. She also adds the patient’s vitals, temp, pulse rate, and respirations which the doctor will review. If this is not updated correctly, the doctor could miss a major change in the patient’s health that could negatively impact the patient’s progress. Also, this portal is really important because if you forget to add details to the chart such as noting that a certain technique didn’t work on the patient or something agitated the patient, then the nurse will not be aware of this and it could cause conflict between the nurse and the patient.
