The Importance Of Writing An Essay

Improved Essays
Essays are important because they let people show their personalities. Many people have a problem with writing due to writer 's block. Why is this? The most challenging part is starting the essay. Often time’s students think too much and are unsure of what to write. Instead they should think of ideas and jot them down on paper. There will be time in later drafts to correct mistakes and improve the written material. When I am writing an essay I concentrate on timing, ideas, and editing. Before I begin writing, I choose a time that I can relax without interruptions. I enjoy being alone in a quiet place when I am writing because I can concentrate; whereas, if I try to write with other people around or the television on I tend to become distracted. …show more content…
I do tons of brainstorming. I jot the ideas on a piece of paper as they come to mind. If I do not take notes, I am just staring at a blank page and will have no starting point. Another way I process ideas is to relate my life experiences with what I write in the essay. For example, if I am writing about a place that I have been to I close my eyes and visualize what I see, hear, and smell. If I make reader feel what I feel then I will be able to keep the paper interesting as well as have the reader 's attention. Now that I have all my ideas I am ready to begin organizing them. The most frequent way I write is freestyle. I like to take my ideas and run with them. Freestyle works best for me. The second thing I do is make an outline. I use the outline if I am struggling with the topic. When I am struggling I look at my layout to keep my paper organized and on topic. The last method I use is t square. I will use this method if it is a compare and contrast essay. By using the t square method I can have my ideas across from each other. To me it is the simplest way to do a compare contrast essay. Now that I have my ideas organized I begin writing my rough …show more content…
The first thing I do when revising is I proofread my work. The second thing I do is have someone who has not yet seen the paper go over it because they are likely to see mistakes that I overlook. It is always good to have feedback from others. I look for words that I could change to sound more intelligent. Having a stronger vocabulary always makes the essay better. Then begin to edit the paper. The comma splices, run-on sentences, fragments, and so forth need fixed. I rewrite my essay several times before I write the final draft and hand it in to make sure it is the best that I could

    2. I will develop college writing skills to write well-organized essays by rereading my text, myself as well as using peer review for editing and proofreading my work. I find this step in the writing process extremely helpful in figuring out what ideas I need to expand, or what part I may need to take out. My professor will ask the class to do peer-editing, and then the professor would review it themselves. After that, they return my paper and I work until the due date to fix and improve the…

However, the main point is colleges should produce writers who can actually use writing as a source for their future jobs and the questions is how can they do that? For example, I want to major in biology. Even though I major in biology, writing would be important to become more successful in my future career. One good way would be giving students an assignment where they require them to write papers on subjects of their choice that have something to do with biology.…

Unless I have a very strict and short deadline, my writing process begins with thinking and reading about the topic or subject matter of my paper. I don’t do a structured free writing or idea mapping session, but rather just read a bit to get familiar with the subject matter and to get my brain thinking about the subject. Once I am ready to begin writing. I start with the thesis statement is on the topic, is formatted correctly, and matches the purpose of the essay.…

Painting an Essay My writing process is similar to making art in many ways. When painting, one has to be delicate and deliberate, hoping for the best, but working with mistakes. The colors on the canvas are softly brushed onto the paper, and the sketch below drafts a form created from the depths of the mind. Every word must come together to create an image that speaks to the audience.…

I have always struggled with writing essays and they’ve never come easily to me. I used to sit in my room, in the middle of the night, just staring at a screen, for what would feel like hours. Wondering, “When am I going to finish this paper, or even, start it?” The writing process is lengthy and has many steps, such as reading, brainstorming, creating an outline and a rough draft, editing, and finally having a final draft. These steps can help anyone write a decent and fully developed paper.…

To clarify, there is no "right way to write." However, the title probably caught your eye, so, I might get a view or two. I start my writing process with the pre-writing process, which is strictly done on pen and paper. My pre-writing process is very similar to "stream of consciousness writing," in which I just let my thoughts on the subject of the writing flow out. Then, as my pre-writing grows in size, I try to find a focus within the thoughts and give myself a direction to write in.…

I would say I have a neutral opinion on English classes. Some days I like them, and some days I dread the time when I have to go home and write another really long essay. I have really enjoyed reading books and plays in class, and I hope we can do that in the future.…

The way I went about writing and revising my paper was putting all of the thoughts I had in my head onto the paper. I put on some background music and just let myself go, I wrote the first things that came to mind and then brought it to class. Many people talked about my grammar and spelling were not great but I wrote the paper as if I was talking. I was the first person to be work shopped and I wanted to go first because I knew that if I waited to get work shopped at the end I would have procrastinated and the paper would have been rushed.…

At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…

If I was writing a paper that required a specific number of paragraphs or pages I would typically plan my paper using the four square method. If I was writing an important paper I would write a rough draft, then as I was typing it I would revise it and fix any mistakes I found. One thing that remained consistent in my writing process, no matter the type of paper, is after I wrote the paper I would try to find more grade level appropriate words instead of the simple words I originally used. While writing essays for this class I came to find it is better to combine my writing processes to write the best possible essay I could. I found the best steps for me to take in writing my paper are to write my ideas down in some form.…
