Writing, Chore or Adventure?
Writing is something that we all face in school; as well as on the job, but why make it as painful as we do? If you are like me you will want to consider how much you enjoy that thrilling suspense novel or action adventure, these are all example of works that the writer had to first learn and perfect their craft before they could ever approach the publishers; yet we enjoy and thrive on every word they write. Even though we are simply working on learning to write an essay I am convinced that we need to learn to enjoy it, think of yourself as the next Stephen King or Earnest Hemmingway or whatever excellent writer you choose. Sit yourself behind your keyboard and imagine, invent, inspire, but most of all enjoy. There are many parts that go into writing a good essay over and above the enjoyment that we must first learn and embrace; Such as basic spelling, grammar, having a strong Thesis statement as well as a focused and well organized topic. When you lack any of the basic writing fundamentals you are simply hurting any opportunity you may have to achieve a well written paper.

Who wants to have to fumble over the meaning of a misspelled word or have to deal with run-on, rambling sentences all the while attempting to grasp and understand the feeling or emotions the writer is trying to convey. Again I have to refer back to my earlier example used by William Least Heat Moon in his Nameless Tennessee essay. These types of common errors can easily be avoided if the writer would simply take time to personally proof read their essay or have a trusted collaborator proof read and provide constructive criticism that would strengthen the work in
