I choose to start my essays by quick-drafting, whereas Marius begins by making a list of main ideas (91). I quick draft because after reading the writing prompt multiple times I have established what I want my readers to get out of my essay. When writing “Fun With Friends” I found that it was easy to compare and contrast traits of my friends because it was personal to myself. I immediately began writing about both of my friends. First, describing them separately, pointing out their similarities and differences, then stating what it is about them that I can relate to. On the other hand, Marius’s informal lists of main ideas allows him to get thoughts down without considering organization (91). Marius avoids starting and stopping while writing his list by jotting down everything as they arise in his head; he is aware that he will have multiple lists before beginning his writing (91). Therefore, Marius understands that the points are subject to change, and he does not “become a slave” to his list as he states (91).
