Writing Process - Original Writing Essay

This term is the first term that I’ve been back in school in over five years. When I started this class I wasn’t sure if I would remember all of the mechanics of good essay writing, even though I took many writing courses in High School, and my major is in English. Throughout the term I was reminded of some of the smaller bits of the proper writing process that I had either forgotten or had pushed to the side when writing creatively. I can not say that my writing process has drastically changed during this term, but I feel like it was a good refresher course for me. In this course, my experience with the writing process has become more polished, clean, and easier to adhere to. One of the most enjoyable parts of the writing process for myself is the drafting and pre-writing stages. I love to get my thoughts down either on paper or on a word document on my laptop. I find it to be the easiest part of the writing process. I really enjoyed pre-writing for the narrative essay. I spent days wondering what I wanted to write about and how I would word my story to make it perfect. I am a perfectionist when it comes to my writing, so I like to get all the ‘big ideas’ down before I forget them. In this course I learned how to draft a persuasive essay with much more ease than I had in high school. I loved following the flowchart in the book, it was simple and to the point. I learned that blocking off each idea, and then each paragraph and supporting sentences really helped my essay…
