Writing: My Life In Fort Smith, Arkansas

Improved Essays
Fort Smith, Arkansas. It’s the second biggest city in Arkansas with absolutely nothing to do, and that’s where I grew up. Mostly. I always believed I lived a very basic life until I met people from other places. Compared to others my life was actually pretty chaotic. I moved around a lot and attended so many different public schools, and apparently to other people (people who stayed in one city there entire life) that’s crazy. Right when I did end up getting used to moving around we settled for good in Fort Smith. My mom was never really happy with where we were at and that’s the reason we jumped from place to place for so long. I grew up with my mom, my younger brother, and my younger sister. My dad was never really in my life though I did …show more content…
Writing. I’m not so great with writing. The way I learn best is if I have a good teacher, and for some reason I have never had a great writing/english teacher. Every writing I’ve done has been based on a book that I wasn’t that excited to read. I always have made good grades, but I have never felt confident with my writing. I like writing about things that I can relate to and I can’t always relate to an analysis of a book that I didn’t like. That’s when writing becomes stressful to me. I believe I have a love hate relationship with writing. I love to express myself, but when it is for a grade I get stuck because I am trying to please someone else. I always seek approval, and that causes me to lose track of what I am trying to say or analyze for an essay. The writing types I am best at are stories and creative essays. I can really put my own thoughts into them which makes my writing much …show more content…
I would consider myself the most unpolitical person in the world. Though I am following the presidential election enough to know that I don’t want Donald Trump to win and make the US like the Hunger Games. I’m so disappointed with the election. I am finally legal to vote and this is who I get to choose from? I find this election extremely sad! But no matter what I will vote for Clinton out of the two. She has a bit more sense than Trump, and she is at least trying to get free college which I am all for. I just feel like Clinton is saying things just to please everyone for the time being, and is just going to go back on her word. Trump is just an idiot. He focuses on all the wrong things, and is much too racist to run a country full of minorities. Free college is a dream of mine so as of now I am all for

Wyoming, Illinois is a representation of a small farming community. It sits among acres of old, history filled corn, wheat and bean fields about thirty minutes from the “big” city. My first childhood home sat on a corner. The old home used to belong to my great grandparents, but was currently occupied by my mom, sister and two cats. I looked over to my mom, “Can I go to the grocery store?”…

A mixture of mud, blood, and dust coated our bodies; to my left and right, cannonballs flew at us. Though we knew not how or when we were going to succeed, we just knew that we had to succeed. Every hardship I had gone through had led to this moment, every hardship I went through had made me become this person. I am Lafayette, and if socialising, sailing the terrifying sea, and living in Valley Forge couldn't shake me, then no British army would.…

Writing would never be called my passion; however, if the topic of interest is thought-provoking, writing can be pleasurable. I have always been exceedingly critical of my writing, and I have a bad habit of producing your standard “five paragraph with five sentences” essay. High school was the true test of my writing skills, mainly because I had to take the ACT and SAT with writing if I wanted to get into the only Georgia school that I thought was up to par with my standards: The University of Georgia. Even though my teachers have considered me to be an acceptable writer, I have always considered myself rather subpar. This insecurity about my writing has haunted me throughout my life, and I have this feeling towards writing mainly…

Almost two years ago, in the middle of my sophomore year of high school, I packed up everything and moved from a small town in Georgia to a much larger town in Michigan. I had lived in Georgia for my entire life, and I knew just about everything in Michigan would be different: the accents, the weather, the population of my town, the list goes on. Despite this, I was open to leaving my home state behind. Both of my parents obtained better jobs, and we would be just a few short hours from family that I typically only saw once a year. When I started school in Michigan, I had to adjust to a new schedule and meeting new people.…

This summer I had the privilege to travel to Atchison, Kansas, where I attended the Life Teen Leadership Conference at Benedictine College. This conference was not only the best week I have ever experienced, but it was a week filled with many Catholic teens joined together in learning how we can live out our Catholic faith, and what it means to be a leader at school, home, and church. During this conference I encountered a bible verse that opened my eyes and truly resonated with my heart, making me rethink my life and how I was living it. “Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple” Luke 14:27. I had heard this verse before at church many years before this event, but in that moment at LTLC, the world stopped…

I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…
