This is more of a personal problem when I write because my native language is Spanish. Therefore, the word order in my native langue is completely the adverse in English. In the beginning, my essays were understandable, but they were grammatically wrong written. The word order made them very difficult to be approved for the writing level the course of English 101A requires. The only way that I was able to overcome this obstacle was reading. I began reading newspapers, articles online, Facebook, or any other source where provided me something academically to read. Reading these articles written by Native American writers, helped me improved my writing because I was more familiarized with the correct word order for proper writing. After several weeks constantly reading, I became comfortable to read articles and learn proper grammar just for fun. As a bilingual student, juggling with “in”, “on”, “to”, “for”, “of”, “the”, and many other prepositions when writing, can be very frustrating. My mistakes in the beginning of my essays were heavily everywhere and I couldn’t find a way to improve the aspect of my writing.
