Famous American novelist, Edgar Lawrence Doctorow once said that “A person can start from nothing but learn as he goes.” Focusing on this idea, it is possible to say that writing is a skill to put ideas on a piece of paper and not be afraid if one does not like writing. Even the greatest writers like Shakespeare, James Joyce, and others might not have thought that their writing was exceptional at the beginning; but they had to start somewhere, from scratch, and later on, let their work do the talking. I use these examples in order to prove my main idea which is: learning how to write effectively does not just happen in a day or a night; it takes a considerable amount of time with a lot of coverage, focus, and determination. I enjoy creative tasks and composing texts for leisure because I have a very imaginative mind; but I feel so confused whenever I have to write for academic purposes especially because it is so restrictive. However, one experience that shaped my attitude towards writing was back in high school when I wrote a comic based on soap and germs for an art project. I drew pictures with descriptions, and I absolutely enjoyed that specific piece of writing. Thus, creating texts is not all about being able to write in one particular way or by following a given pattern. It is more than that, and for me, creative writing brings out the writer in me and enhances my critical and creative thinking. These are the only a few reasons why I enjoy creative writing.
