Reflecting WRTG 101 Writing has always been a personal experience for me. I have pages and pages of journal entries from various times throughout my life. Writing used to be an outlet for me to get the thoughts out of my head that I didn’t quite understand, or even a way to freeze a moment in time. My writing has always had such a personal voice on it that I would get negative remarks through high school. The teacher would tell me, “amazing writing, but you write as if you are speaking”. In turn, I gained a bit of a complex. To be honest, I have been avoiding WRTG 101 for years in fear of my work being judged. In addition, I was very apprehensive to take an English class while juggling my two daughters, other classes and unpredictable army …show more content…
I began WRTG 101 as an insecure and rusty writer with some serious grammatical bad habits; now I have a new-found confidence in my writing ability and a more profound grasp of APA formatting. In the first writing assignment, I found a great deal of comfort. It was such a relief that I was able to write about a personal experience in the first person. After submitting my essay, I checked about every hour, anxiously awaiting the feedback. To my surprise, my rusty, old, writing skills had come through as exceptional. It made me feel great, and I was actually excited to progress through the class. The compare and contrast essay introduced a new challenge to me with its APA formatting and citations. I chose to write about a topic I felt familiar with and that I related to in order to stay confident in my writing. Finding sources for my essay that related to my topic came fairly easy. I felt that once I was able to get through the introduction, the rest of the paper would come together. The feedback I received from that essay was mostly positive with the majority of the corrections surrounding the APA citations. I made it my goal with the cause and effect essay to not only have an essay that had

“The Power of One” also demonstrated my improved method of writing my introduction and conclusion paragraphs. I was sure to begin my essay in an interesting way by opening with a rhetorical question. On top of that I introduced the idea of “the power of one” and continued this idea by concluding my essay with it as well. In addition, in “Shift to Reality” I feel my paragraph development was strong and thorough as I examined the depth at which William Golding brings his novel to a satisfying conclusion. On the other hand, I still feel I struggle with sentence structure and awkward wording as shown in my ALS Ice Bucket Challenge essay.…

Every time I read the essay I got more and more information than I did before. I have learned that academic writing can be tedious, but when you start understanding it more it becomes easier to do. Upon completing all the assignments for Writing 101, I think I have undergone a significant amount of growth as a writer. Throughout the course there were many different assignments that I found to be challenging in their own ways. The design of many projects was much different than anything I had previously encountered, causing much more effort, and thought. Specifically, the rhetorical analysis and the proposal were two projects that took me outside of my comfort zone. Each project encompassed its distinct difficulties that ended up evolving my knowledge about writing.…

Reflecting on your previous writing can bring to light how your writing skills have improved and grown into your current writing. Previously, I had been exposed to a lot of writing and reading in my AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature classes in high school. The writing skills that I had learned in both classes dealt with analysis papers pertaining to a specific prompt or style. I also had been exposed to lots of literature, specifically short novels and poetry that I had to interpret. My high school AP English classes prepped me for the college level writing class at High Point University.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

In high school, my teachers never had me write reflections on any of my work; therefore, I thought it was quite odd that I had to do it for this course. At the start of the semester, I did not see the point in writing reflections and really did not put much effort into them. I started to see the value in writing reflections as the semester progressed. I started to see that reflecting on my work benefits the reader and myself. Reflections allow the reader to see my thoughts on my process and writing; furthermore, reflections allow me to think about problems I encountered and how I worked past them and show my progression as a writer.…

Once I began English 101 I will admit that I was worried that I wouldn 't meet the expectations of college writing. In my past high school career I did well as a writer but many times have I been told that I lack a handful of writing skills. Such as grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and as we called it flow. I wasn’t able to keep my readers attention and I felt as if my writing skills were below average. As I began my first semester of college I was anxious about how I would turn out in my English class.…

Throughout our first quarter at Midwestern University we wrote multiple papers, all of which were required to adhere to proper APA style. APA encompasses a very precise writing technique that includes strict rules for grammar, formatting, and style. Having come into this program straight from an undergraduate psychology program, I felt comfortable writing in APA style. That being said, I quickly found out I had plenty of room for improvement. This essay will describe several strengths, as well as several weaknesses…

The concluding paragraph is the grand finale to writing a paper. They have the power to make professors stop and think “wow, that was an overall strong paper” or “wow, that went downhill quick.” After writing my essays this semester for Writing 102, I believe that my conclusions most likely evoked the second response. Usually my conclusions tend to stray off-topic, or when I attempt to write a creative opening sentence in my conclusion, it does not relate to my paper at all; therefore, it leaves readers with confusion. During Writing 102, I learned that not all conclusions need to be creative and elaborate because usually a simple and concise conclusion will serve the purpose.…
