Writing Goals Essay

I have always had a passion for the arts, both in fine art and literature. I’ve always had a pull toward the fine arts and creating imagery, but had essentially tabled the idea of creating such imagery with words. I think one of the main reasons that I had waited so long to declare this major was because the pursuit of my Bachelor’s degree in Art took up a large portion of my time, so I was concerned about having such a fierce workload. Now that I have nearly completed my degree, I have been giving more thought to my writing as a whole, and after my Intro to Creative Writing class this semester, I knew that I had to pursue my writing goals. Writing takes the work of art you wish to create and not only manifests it into a written world, but creates new dreams. Creative writing reaches audiences far longer and far deeper than a work of fine art. When I would finish a novel or poem, I would set down the material knowing that I’ve gained a new perspective, or have gained new friends to care about. I think that Graphic novels are a fantastic balance between my two passions, because it brings the story to life in two ways, providing readers with better description of that world. I want to explore this style of creative writing more in construction and format, because while I have read plenty, I have not had much experience yet in forming one, but I know that I can learn through the creative writing program here at the University of Central Arkansas. This is another reason why I have chosen to pick up Creative Writing as my second major, because this program will help refine my artistic skill in terms of format and editing. I have always had a very abstract style while pursuing my Graphic Design degree, so I find a type of solace in having restrictions in my writing in terms of structure and
