Reflective Essay: Middle And High School

Improved Essays
Throughout my middle and high school life, I’ve come to dislike writing essays to a point where I am trying to find every way possible to avoid unto this day. Yes, you’re right; I am not enjoying writing this essay, mainly because writing is always been my weak point. In college, students are piled each week with homework’s up to their throat, but nightmare doesn’t stop there. You know it’s coming and although you try as hard as possible to brace yourself, it never works, as for hearing your professor happily say “Essays are due next week”, brings chills down your back and a killer headache as you come to realize your weekend plans are out the door. Having to write ten pages, no, even three pages is extremely time consuming, speaking personally, …show more content…
After class I figured that’s not so bad since I am pretty good with test, and even better that it’s multiple choice, easy A on the quiz. Little did I know upon pulling the link up, I saw the article I had to read that week, an extremely long and tedious essay to read just to make one point. If I could recall clearly on the top on my head, I would say that, that article was seven to ten pages long, with the text looking as if they were written in font five; you probably needed to zoom in fully to see a sentence. With this large article, I had to adapt myself to understand the full story, what the author is really trying to say to his audience, and not fall asleep, in order to “ace” that quiz. With all this reading and analyzing, I found myself being able to analyze key text in article that is on the quiz faster than …show more content…
As for me, I was excited about writing my research essay on gun control because I got the chance to read about many more incidence that was not covered by the media, not to mention many amazing idea’s people are pushing for to make America a better place. During my four months in this course, I’ve come to understand to use commas more often than before, as it changes the way your sentence flows. Future skills that I plan to use over and over again is how to analyze a long boring article in a way I can pull key information’s and understand what the author is really trying to

When he handed out the test I immediately looked at the essay question and had a glimmer of hope. It was something we had just recently covered in class, and I remembered it perfectly. Then came the multiple choice questions. Although I remembered the information of most of these, there were some that I just couldn’t recall. There were five questions like that, and it just so happened that I couldn’t miss more than five to raise my grade.…

Writing was not a subject that held my interest in high school. Throughout the last twelve years I have found myself having to write letters, proposals, and business correspondence for my employers. I would complete the assignment and move on to the next task. Deciding to further my education I enrolled in Daytona State College and my first class was your ENC 1101. I have seen a change in my pre-class writing style; I have honed my skills, and the different techniques I have learned while taking this course have only improved my writing style.…

Transitioning from middle school to high school is scary enough, not to mention finding out that your best friends won’t be attending that same school adds a little pressure on a pre-teen who, for the most part is really shy. When I first started high school I had a cousin who was a year older than me, she showed me around school and I ended up hanging out with her and her friends for a few months. Then she introduced me to some of her newer friends who were in the same grade as me. They were nice people and they got me through the first year of high school, but I never felt like I belonged to “their group”.…

This year I learned more about writing than any others years I had English. I loved the hand on practices, tips, and lessons that we always had to prepare us for the writing assignments. I am so used to learn all rules and figure out when to break them, and when to keep them. It was really confusing how l learn to write. Therefore I was never a good writer or cared to be one.…

Since the first day, time has been flying really fast. Starting a fresh new day, meeting the same teachers and same old friends, I still cannot imagine that I am now a senior! In my senior year, there will definitely be a lot of challenges and obstacles for me to conquer, but I believe that as long as I do everything step by step, I can beat down the difficulties in this senior year. When I was in junior year, I often heard last year’s seniors told me how hard is it to come up with a senior project topic, and they kept on reminding me to start thinking of my topic and finding my mentors. Luckily, I had research method class last year, so I knew how to do my APA style references and I had many presentations experiences last year.…

When I began studying at the University of Montevallo, I had a background of high school creative writing and English classes, and one summer of a college English class. To be honest, I was terrified of jumping into my fall English 102 class. I felt I was unprepared for a serious college level composition class, and that I would have a strenuous time adjusting to a four-year university. However, as I walk away from my English 102 class I carry the understanding of writing a college level essay, undertaking research and completing a research and argument paper properly, and knowledge to prepare me for my other classes and profession.…

Growing up with catholic education, I was primarily taught the importance of reading and writing. The generic hamburger 5-paragraph essay format was on our 10 commandments of writing and so was the idea of a minimum 6-8 sentences per paragraph. Entering high school English class, I found myself in a different situation than most typical high school students. My school offered International Baccalaureate English classes; these classes were structured differently than that of AP or Standard English. In this class, we were left to fend on our own.…

Like I previously stated I learned how to do many things with my writing this semester. The first essay we wrote, a narrative, was probably my favorite essay to write. Before I began my Freshman Development Seminar course with Professor Furet, I believed that this class would not be of good use to me. The reason for this was because of my beliefs in self-teaching myself to learn the basics with additional help from other sources. However, it did not turn out the way I wanted it to be. Therefore, I had to pay to get taught what I could have done on my own, at least that is what I convinced myself then and there. Throughout my class sessions with Ms. Furet, I learned more than I could have ever imagined.…

Throughout high school, my teachers have always said, “We are preparing you for college,” and, “It won’t be this easy when you go to college.” We are conditioned to think of college as a completely independent learning environment where spending hours studying a textbook is the key to a good grade and later, success in a career. “No one in college will care whether you pass or fail. It’s all up to you,” said my freshman English teacher. I have had the unique opportunity to test this theory out the past two years through the Trailblazer Collegiate Academy.…

Throughout life, we learn different lessons be it from a teacher such as your parents, guardians, spouse, etc. or just going out and living and collecting experiences. From these, we grow and become the person we are today. We learn to shape us into the person we are and motivate the things we do and believe. I believe heavily in three core things I’ve learned in my life through experience. These core principles are Trust is something earned, sometimes you must think outside the box, and don’t let the bad moments outshine the good.…
