Reflective Essay: Coming To Geneseo

Improved Essays
Coming to Geneseo, when I registered for this course I was definitely nervous. In High School writing an English paper has never been my strong suit to begin with. Being out of high school for three years I haven’t written a paper, so right off the bat I found this course difficult. For instances, this course challenged myself to really “think” about what I should write during the first essay process. I was recapping what happened in the film “Do the Right Thing” rather than analysing the film. Secondly, I believe my writing has come a long way from the beginning of the semester, by learning and acquiring certain techniques that I’ve learned throughout this course I feel more confident now. Finally, finishing the course I’m still a long way from where I need to be and face challenges and I will work toward conquering them.

Methods I learned in this course have helped achieve these steps forward. Proof reading out loud is a technique that I feel has helped. I wouldn’t proof read out loud at the start of this course, which left me with errors throughout my essay, I would being missing words or read it how I thought it should sound rather than what I actually wrote, when I was reading in my head. My rough draft of essay one was a perfect example of this. “Sal doesn’t have issues with any races early in film. He hired Mookie for instant and he loves when Mookie’s sister Jade came for a slice of pizza”. If I would have proofread it out land I would of changed the word instant to instances. The stragey the Dr. McCoy taught us was simple but beneficial, it was to do my writing in ten-minute increments. I never knew how much I was actually able to do in short time with no distractions. When I wake up my mind is clear, so this strategy helps out a lot then. These are some of the strategies that helped my

PADM 302 Course Reflection My primary goals for this course were to improve my writing skills in two specific ways. I wanted to be able to write with greater speed, but with apparent quality, and I wanted to be clearer in my writing. I had two strategies in mind to meet these goals. The first included becoming proficient at writing outlines and frameworks, which, I thought, would help me better adhere to my objectives for the papers I write. The second strategy was to learn methods by which I could become more concise in writing which would enable me to more powerfully present the points I wish to deliver in papers.…

As time progressed and we learned more about colloquial language and little things I could change in my essays to further advance and improve my writing. Now, I feel even more confident about my writing and know that all of these little changes I can make in my writing create a better flow of ideas and a higher level of formality. I feel that throughout this semester I have been greatly challenged as a writer and have advanced the most that I ever have in writing within such a short period of time. I have put in a lot time and effort into this class in order to create…

I have realized that I need to continue to strive for excellence instead of drafting and essay and not making edits to it that will be beneficial to my learning.
