I feel like I am professionally ready for my senior year placement. I am looking forward to being able to spend much more time and actually see what a social worker does and interact with a social worker on a much different level than previous service learning’s. I believe that being able to interact with individuals at this last site will help me tremendously when it comes to interacting with clients and employees at my senior placement. After years of working in the Social Services field, I felt that my heart needed a hiatus from the gut wrenching circumstances in which many of the families I assisted found themselves in. I started the social work program at Oakland University in 2013 at that time my goal was to obtain my BSW with a minor in child welfare. My other goal was to work for the D.H.H.S in child protection services. As I venture into my field placement, I have no reluctance to serve in any settings and/or with any population. I have learned through my 24 years in the human services field to expect the unexpected and be prepared for anything. I take things that are unfamiliar to me as an opportunity to learn and experience something new. Since I first moved from Italy to the UK, it was very challenging having to learn English as my third language. I was able to pick it up by working with a diverse range of people; this helped me to speak confidently in front of my peers. The role of a documentarian is to tell a story contained of important tales in the world where the truths that they want to tell are either ignored or hidden. By producing their film, documentarians owe their viewers the justification of the manipulation of individual facts, sequences and meanings of not only the images, but the stories they have been told. I decided I had to go to work, but unfortunately in 2009 the company I was working for had gone out of business. At this point my husband had become disabled.
