Do I Deserve to Pass Eng1020 Class? “Do you like to write? What do you enjoy about writing? What is difficult about writing?” (Weaver 9).…
PADM 302 Course Reflection My primary goals for this course were to improve my writing skills in two specific ways. I wanted to be able to write with greater speed, but with apparent quality, and I wanted to be clearer in my writing. I had two strategies in mind to meet these goals. The first included becoming proficient at writing outlines and frameworks, which, I thought, would help me better adhere to my objectives for the papers I write. The second strategy was to learn methods by which I could become more concise in writing which would enable me to more powerfully present the points I wish to deliver in papers.…
This course has improved myself as a writer and has a critical thinker; with the essays that were written I was challenged to ask more questions and see the bigger picture on things and view a subject from all sides. I never wrote an argumentative essay before this course, so this course taught me what it was how to write one and what exactly I was looking for and what I would be able to improve on. I know there is still room for improvement, but taking this course has already made me a better writer from when I started. Writing argumentative essays would help improve many skills as an individual by learning how to approach important issues without taking a side and learning this would also help if a person was trying to prove a point…
I have had a lot of personal growth in my writing while taking this class in a lot areas such as learning how to collaborate with others, improvement, and even learning new information. Working with other students in class really helped me become a better writer. Having people read my papers and getting a second point of view helped me realize how to better improve my essays. My grammar improved, my…
I think that my biggest success in this course was remembering how to actually sit down and write papers/essays/reports. This was my first semester in college after being out of school for a decade and a half. I did not realize how much has changed, and how much I had forgotten until I had to submit my first assignment. I’m not sure if it is funny, or if it is said that when I went to school the first time, was taught to hit the space bar twice after each period, use footnotes, underline titles, and the bibliography went at the end of the paper to complement my footnotes. Through this course, I learned how to do things modernly and properly.…
Writing is one of the most fundamental skills I will always continue working on in order to perfect it. Having taken the writing 101 has really helped me when it comes to writing essays in a fast pace, as well as leaning how to work with different writing styles. To begin, I learned about using American Psychological Association in my writing and how to format my essays as my professor requested. Secondly, the fast pace class showed me how to manage my time successfully in order to focus more on my school work rather than other stuff. To finalize, the class overall help me out on how to find scholarly source in the University of Maryland library.…
During this course, I’ve learned many important qualities of writing that will benefit me in the future. Learning to use correct punctuation, how to paraphrase, write complete paragraphs, avoid sentence fragments, proofreading and listening to each sentence as we read our essays. Although I have to correct issues during our writing assignments, I feel as though my writing skills have improved since this class started. I know with each course that we complete, our writing skills will increase and become a practice that we use daily. In reading through the discussion post in unit one, a few areas that needed correction before posting have been described in the following statements.…
I began with this writing class because I aspire to work in advocacy. I have to be able to write reports and data out in a basic and factual manner. As you progress through the class, you will learn how to stick to the basic facts in the reference to the type of document, you can begin to see your own speaking patterns and how you approach your topic at hand. It has been challenging to learn how to be less descriptive and to stick to the fact with few adjectives and zero personal biases as possible. I spend a good bit of time on my personal writing, the bulk of which is creative and self-expressive.…
Reflection Memo Attending the high school in the US, I had basic and yet solid knowledge of writing academic papers such as how to structure the paper, what is TEA, how should citation be. However, since all my previous English classes have focused on literary analysis, I was used to following the general structure of writing an essay, such as writing only one-sentence thesis, etc., and did not have specific training on exactly how to improve my writing. Before taking this class, I had expectations of learning how to write in a more professional setting. Now, after a semester of 76-100, I have improved my reading and writing skills in many different perspectives. First, I learned some valuable reading skills that will assist me in understanding the articles and…
While taking a class in college, many people just go through the motions and show up to class to get the job done. But after taking my first English Composition class this fall I realized how much important material and knowledge I have gained. During the class we learned everything from little bits of grammar to writing six page papers. Learning how to start the drafting process on a paper and build an effective was by far the most important skill I have learned in class. Being able to effectively write a paper is such an important skill and I will need this skill for classes that I will be taking for my major.…
Reflection When I first registered for this class I knew I was facing a challenge. I took this class because I was looking forward into improving my creativity as a writer and learned more about the different styles of writing. Looking back at the goals I set for myself in the beginning of the class I would gladly say I have some what accomplished them. My goals in the beginning of the class was to improve my writing by becoming more of a show and not tell kind of writer. I also put down that I would like to become more of an open-minded writer.…
When I began this English course I was not the writer I am today. I wrote with several errors. I always thought I was an okay writer, but I did not realize I was not good enough to get the grades I wanted in college. I feel like I can say my writing has improved because of this class. For one I now know how to correctly do MLA format.…
1. During High School, I completed many papers on various subjects. I completed various English papers for creative writing. Biographies to reading responses were a daily activity in high school, they consisted of responses to literary work to biographies of successful individuals. Biology classes, which i was in, required research on specific topics and responses in report format.…
Throughout English Composition 1 class, I am proud to say I have made progress. This could refer to mental progress as well. In the beginning, I thought writing a paragraph in 30 minutes was a difficult task. Now though, I am confident enough to whip out an essay in a few hours. Getting from writing one paragraph in a class to writing an essay in the class took a lot of work, but we went slow and broke the work down into simpler steps along the way.…
My first goal for this course is to write fast and naturally. Personally, writing in English is a time-consuming and stressful job for me. It takes me more time time than domestic students to write an essay. A lot of times, I sit in front of my computer for hours trying to figure out what I should write for my next sentence. Even though I thought of what to write in Korean, sometimes it takes me awhile to translate it into English.…
