The Importance Of Writing An Essay

Improved Essays
Essays are important because they let people show their personalities. Many people have a problem with writing due to writer 's block. Why is this? The most challenging part is starting the essay. Often time’s students think too much and are unsure of what to write. Instead they should think of ideas and jot them down on paper. There will be time in later drafts to correct mistakes and improve the written material. When I am writing an essay I concentrate on timing, ideas, and editing. Before I begin writing, I choose a time that I can relax without interruptions. I enjoy being alone in a quiet place when I am writing because I can concentrate; whereas, if I try to write with other people around or the television on I tend to become distracted. …show more content…
I do tons of brainstorming. I jot the ideas on a piece of paper as they come to mind. If I do not take notes, I am just staring at a blank page and will have no starting point. Another way I process ideas is to relate my life experiences with what I write in the essay. For example, if I am writing about a place that I have been to I close my eyes and visualize what I see, hear, and smell. If I make reader feel what I feel then I will be able to keep the paper interesting as well as have the reader 's attention. Now that I have all my ideas I am ready to begin organizing them. The most frequent way I write is freestyle. I like to take my ideas and run with them. Freestyle works best for me. The second thing I do is make an outline. I use the outline if I am struggling with the topic. When I am struggling I look at my layout to keep my paper organized and on topic. The last method I use is t square. I will use this method if it is a compare and contrast essay. By using the t square method I can have my ideas across from each other. To me it is the simplest way to do a compare contrast essay. Now that I have my ideas organized I begin writing my rough …show more content…
The first thing I do when revising is I proofread my work. The second thing I do is have someone who has not yet seen the paper go over it because they are likely to see mistakes that I overlook. It is always good to have feedback from others. I look for words that I could change to sound more intelligent. Having a stronger vocabulary always makes the essay better. Then begin to edit the paper. The comma splices, run-on sentences, fragments, and so forth need fixed. I rewrite my essay several times before I write the final draft and hand it in to make sure it is the best that I could

I find very hard to come on with ideas even if its about a simple subject. I have to rethink and even ask my friends or family members for some ideas. When i find myself stuck in a idea I have to stop writing and take a break. By taking a break I feel like I have an opportunity to have a fresh mind when I get back to the writing. I also think its hard the drafting section. I find this part hard because there is times where I don’t know what I need to change to make the writing better. Usually after the first draft I get stuck and don’t know how what I have to change or add. Something that I do like is to get feedback from other people. Some people would argue that getting feedback from others is not too good but most of the time it works for me. The reason why I like others to read my writing is because it helps me catch some errors in my writing. What I find most confusing is once I have ideas, how to put them together. I always need help with the organization of my writing. I feel like without an organization is really easy for the reader to get lost. When it comes to getting everything organized and put together I like to ask an instructor about it and that is what usually works for…

I don’t like to work on my bed because it makes me want to give up and go to sleep. I also tend to work with some music playing and more often than not, a cup of coffee is with me. I typically work on the rough draft sporadically the day before it is due and sometimes that means also late into the night. If I can, as in not wait until the night before, I like to give myself breaks so I do not get into a writing rut. Sometimes I will come back to the paper later even after I think I have finished it and add things too it. I just look at it with fresh eyes and try to make sure that what I am trying to say is understood. However, I do not always do any sort of written out brainstorming before I start writing. This can make the rough draft more random and sometimes aspects of it ends up in the final draft too. Most of the time I use my rough draft as my pre-writing. It is easier for me to see how to organize my essay and what should be added or taken out when it is all written out in essay form. I have all my ideas written out the way I want and I see can how it all flows and fits together, even if it…

However, the main point is colleges should produce writers who can actually use writing as a source for their future jobs and the questions is how can they do that? For example, I want to major in biology. Even though I major in biology, writing would be important to become more successful in my future career. One good way would be giving students an assignment where they require them to write papers on subjects of their choice that have something to do with biology. Since they can choose their own topics, it would help them to get more interested in writing. Also, scientists use the scientific research essay as a communication. If you improve your writing skill in scientific research papers, it would provide the readers with better understand of your work and its significance. Another example is writing or communication is essential across engineering. Some people might wonder why writing would be important for engineers. Lacking in communication skills can inhibit an engineer’s ability to get a job at some large technology companies. My writing process is similar to making art in many ways. When painting, one has to be delicate and deliberate, hoping for the best, but working with mistakes. The colors on the canvas are softly brushed onto the paper, and the sketch below drafts a form created from the depths of the mind. Every word must come together to create an image that speaks to the audience. A lot of the process is involved even before putting my pencil to the page. I have to come up with an idea of what to even draw in the first place, and I have to find some kind of inspiration that will guide me. This is the same with my writing process, especially when assigned a topic. I have to find some source of inspiration for the topic or my writing becomes flat and boring. When painting, I create a rough draft of what I plan to paint. This sketch is often a separate page that is full of scribbles and studies of what I plan to draw, similar to creating an organizational diagram of my writing ideas and picking out what I plan to write about.…

    My Writing Process

Over the years, I have defined a technique for writing essays that best suits me. I always type essays on a computer at my desk, which is located in the office space at my house. There is no specific time of day when I decide to write an essay, but it usually will happen late at night when I have finished all my other homework and want to complete it, or I will write my essay early in the morning because I am busy during the day. Usually when I start writing essays, ideas come to me rapidly, so I prefer to write my whole essay at one time. After a couple days, I will go back to it during multiple occasions over the next week to revise it and make it the best it can be. I never pre-write, and I find writing outlines to be useless…

The most crucial step of my writing processes is letting my mind go wild and my fingers move freely. Whenever I write anything, I always let myself write whatever is on my mind at that exact second. Even if it doesn’t make 100% sense or isn’t exactly on topic, I’ll type it out. When I was writing my essay, I didn’t stop to fix anything until the very end. When I finished writing, I looked for mistakes.…

Before I start writing, I read the essay prompt multiple times and brain storm what I am going to write about. If I can’t think of anything I ask someone else to read the prompt. I ask them to tell me one of their ideas and then I create my own ideas. Once I get my ideas and know what I am going to write about, I have to find a marathon of a show to watch. I used to think I use the shows for the sound; but the dialogue from the shows helps me from some of my sentences. This process would never happen in high school; I would write my essays in school so I don’t have to do anything when I go home. I wouldn’t ask anybody to read the prompt and give me one of their ideas if I was stuck. I’d hope that I answer in my writing when I turn it in.…

First I pick what I would like to write about and start my research. From there once I have a better understanding of my topic I just start writing and not stop till I have written down everything I can think about the topic. From there I start to add little notes by each area that I found information from in my research. The notes come in handy when I write my draft witch comes next. Once my rough draft is complete I read it to see where I need to do more research to back up my thoughts and correct any spelling. Finally, the final step in my process it to write my final copy. I insure all the information is added that needed for information to back up and my spelling and grammar is correct. The environments I like to be in when I am writing a paper is to be in the library or a coffee house. I always like to start my paper in the library so I can check out books and other things that will help me write my paper. Reflection Of My Writing

If I was writing a paper that required a specific number of paragraphs or pages I would typically plan my paper using the four square method. If I was writing an important paper I would write a rough draft, then as I was typing it I would revise it and fix any mistakes I found. One thing that remained consistent in my writing process, no matter the type of paper, is after I wrote the paper I would try to find more grade level appropriate words instead of the simple words I originally used. While writing essays for this class I came to find it is better to combine my writing processes to write the best possible essay I could. I found the best steps for me to take in writing my paper are to write my ideas down in some form. After reviewing my ideas and deciding exactly what the best approach would be to address the given prompt, I write a rough draft, then I start typing my final copy. As I am typing my final draft I revise sentences, correct spelling and grammar, and occasionally add or take away a sentence. Once my essay is completely written, I use the spelling and grammar check and fix mistakes that it may find. I then print my essay out and let a couple people read it and fix any mistakes they find. I ask them for suggestions on how to combine sentences and have a better variety of sentences.…

Notably, as a teenager I wrote a horrible academic essay in an easy English class in the 10th grade, and received a D. By way of contrast, as an adult I wrote an excellent research essay in an English class as a freshman in college, and received an A. Though, I made horrible mistakes on my personal essay as a teenager, I believe my writing has improved tremendously due to a research essay I wrote. For one thing, as a teenager in the 10th grade I wrote a horrible essay that received a non-passing grade, but now as an adult in college I proved I could write an excellent academic paper because I received an A on an essay that I wrote my freshman year of college.…

Each of us has their own writing style. Some work best with music in the background, and some work best in silence. Others like to organize their ideas, and others find that jotting all of their ideas down on paper is a better method of writing. For me, writing an essay is a time consuming process. First, I like to write one sentence at a time, and then go back and revise it. I find that starting off with one sentence and going back to revise it helps with keeping the flow of the paragraph. Next, I like to brainstorm ideas for the next sentence that ties in with the previous sentence. This step tends to be the most prolonged for me because I will almost always brainstorm at least three to four sentences. Brainstorming sentences helps me with writing because it helps me narrow down my options for picking the best fit for a sentence. This step also helps with keeping my essay from becoming a bit boring. If I narrow down my sentences, the more interesting one will always be chosen.…
